Dropped Speed TV from my Line-up
Finally decided to drop Speed from my Sat. service. Many of the programs that I liked are no longer shown (WRC eliminated completely! - that was the final blow) and I can catch the occasional F1 race on CBS now. Even F1 wasn't all that exciting but I have enjoyed listening to David Hobbs and Steve Matchett.
I couldn't care less about that "other" form of racing... |
They still have Grand Am and ALMS and SCCA, and there's no place else you can find them.
|
Yeah they suck, I recently upgraded my receiver to a DVR just so I could watch F1... and CBS starts to cover it!
I'm pretty pissed about the WRC being dropped also. Speed comes as part of the service I have so I won't drop it, I have been recording the GT racing (Grand-am?), euro-coupe (or something like that), and the motorcycle GP. But yes, most evenings there is nothing but dumba$$ "reality" shows or ricer programing on speed, without the DVR it is useless. |
I admit, I'll have a problem when Le Mans rolls around. Maybe I can pick it up for just one month only.
|
Every now and then I think about dropping Speed, but then I turn it on yesterday and they are showing the Monza Motorcycle GP and once again I am hooked.
|
I'll still watch the various Grand Am stuff, and the occasional SCCA event, but when they dropped WRC they lost me as a viewer.

'Cmon guys - with shows like Pinks, Unique Whips, and all that wonderful NASCAR programming, why do you guys complain about Speed?
Yeah, I'm disappointed with Speed of late. MTV used to show MUSIC VIDEOS, now it's filled with a bunch of teenager reality show crap. Speed used to show RACING, now it's filled with a bunch of teenager reality show crap. Coincidence? I think not! They interrupt races like the Daytona 24 / Sebring 12 / LeMans in order to bring you "What's in NASCAR's laundry bin?" and "Pinks." And if I want to watch a Speed World Challenge race (sponsored by, er, Speed), I need to tune in around 3:00am. Same applies to ALMS, and any other RACE for that matter... Grrr..... -Z-man. |
Speed TV sucks azz!! I'm not sure why I'm paying $5 or whatever for the "sports extra" package just to get Speed, but I do occasionally watch a bit of racing. Seems crazy though since I watch about 1-2 hours a month.
I mourn the loss of "SpeedVision". Those were the really, REALLY, good ole' days. |
dropped it

It sucks that the RS Spyders break so often. |
I DVR the races I want to see (F1, ALMS, ...) and other than that, Speed never appears on my TV.
When they added all that NASCAR / BUSH garbage, I lost interest. (Who really wants to watch a Bush Series "behind the scenes" show that is nothing more than a thinly veiled promo for FitzBradshaw Racing?) Then when they dropped WRC, I was done with them. They should really spinoff a seperate channel for all the NASCAR coverage, and the crap like "Pinks". Then SpeedTV could revert to it's glory. |
I was thinking how I never watch SPEED anymore, just way too much junk, but still better then nothing.
|
Although CBS has a handful of tape delayed F1 races this year, I'll wade through the Nascar/Pinks dreck on Speed to get the majority of the F1 schedule live. And the fact that Speed still is the only game in town for live qualifying for all events as well.
I'd venture that the new format qualifying for Monaco in a couple of weeks will be vastly more interesting than the race itself... After listening to that insufferable twit Derek Daly drone on last week for CBS at Catalunya, ("well,well,well....its Feeezeeecayla in turd place now...") I again gained a new appreciation for Speed. i guess you guys are missing the re-broadcast of all the F1 races.
cbs is only doing some same day coverage speed still carries all the races you just may have to wait a week acouple time a season. sure all the the nascar is a little much but since they are part of the FOX group what do you expect. |
Their bread and butter is now NASCAR. Love it or hate it that's the payday for them (I perosnally hate it). There aren't any alternatives, it is still the best option for the Rolex series, ALMS, F1, AMA racing and MotoGP. THe racing most of us on this board like to watch isn't going to bring in the ad dollars that all the NASCAR and the builder shows are going to bring in. Sad but true....

I can get all the excitement of NASCAR by watching my neighbor's dog chase its tail.
I keep speed, but only 'cause it's part of my Direct-TV standard programming. F1 is always worth watching, I like the Rolex series and the little bit of Atlantic & Champ they show but mostly it's a redneck-suck-up fest with NASCAR NASCAR NASCAR!!! (insert puke icon). The motor-x stuff is kinda' interesting admittedly. |
This sounds like the same debate on keeping your PCA membership. :)
