[begin rant] Whether or not you believe in God (BTW, I do), this is still one of the most stupid arguments in this thread. Remember, the Bible was written by MAN, not by GOD. And which "bible" is the correct one? We have various versions for the Christians, the Muslims, the Jews, and on and on. What if YOUR Bible is the WRONG ONE? Don't quote the Bible to make a scientific argument. If God created everything, then God created science. Wouldn't God be pissed at us if we didn't use science to explain our beginning, and the creation of the universe? So, USE THE TOOLS AVAILABLE TO US! [end of rant]

No one claims the Bible is a science textbook.
However, everyone MUST admit, every scientific subject it touches on is 100% accuate. Zero errors.

I said zero...

really?

And what if you don't believe in the Bible of the various Christian faiths? Does that mean you're wrong? I'm sure there's a lot of folks not on board who will need some convincing.

svandamme 05-25-2006 08:41 AM

ehm what scientific subjects were coverd in the bible again?? i read it as a kid, and even was forced to copy pages as means of punishment (catholic school ) but i fail to remember the scientific formulas

trekkor 05-25-2006 08:58 AM

If I post the verse will you look it up?
Or will I have to post that, too?

If I quote the verse, my translation will be challenged.

I will try though.

The Christian Bible is the correct one. Throughout history who has been more blessed? Christians or Muslims? The Apostle Paul doesn't talk like the Muslims (descendants of Hagar) are blessed. And like math or science it all comes down to first principles that you cannot prove (just like the existence of God) but still know to be true and that you can build on.

Exodus 3:14

God said to Moses, "I am who I am . This is what you are to say to the Israelites: 'I AM has sent me to you.' "

Galatians 4:21-23

"Hagar and Sarah

Tell me, you who want to be under the law, are you not aware of what the law says? For it is written that Abraham had two sons, one by the slave woman and the other by the free woman. His son by the slave woman was born in the ordinary way; but his son by the free woman was born as the result of a promise."

Genesis 21:9-13

And Sarah saw the son of Hagar the Egyptian, which she had born unto Abraham, mocking. Wherefore she said unto Abraham, Cast out this bondwoman and her son: for the son of this bondwoman shall not be heir with my son, even with Isaac. And the thing was very grievous in Abraham's sight because of his son. And God said unto Abraham, Let it not be grievous in thy sight because of the lad, and because of thy bondwoman; in all that Sarah hath said unto thee, hearken unto her voice; for in Isaac shall thy seed be called. And also of the son of the bondwoman will I make a nation, because he is thy seed.

2 Timothy 3:16 (King James Version)

All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness

Where do people like you come from?

One of my favorites. Regarding the shape of the earth.

There has been much debate about this in man's history.

Of course it's round. A globe, not flat.

At Isaiah 40:22 this is commented on. "circle of the earth"...

Thousands of years before man could finally provide visible proof looking back at the earth from space.

Popular opinion of the day does not equal truth.

The earth isn't a circle. (I can't belive I'm responding to this...)
If it was, it would be flat.

nine_one_4 05-25-2006 09:18 AM

Actually, just east of France.

If you don't have the conviction that what you are doing or believing is correct...What are you doing?

Step up!!

Like rabbits chewing their cud? Have you even read Genesis? And you believe that? Literally? If you're comfortable believing that it is 100% accurate, then good for you.

Why nit-pick?
Some translations actually use the word "globe".

Did you look it up or just pick at the translation I partially quoted?

I'm patient...

I'm not.

Be careful...:)

No scriptural reference? Just blurting out opposition does not add to the discussion.

Animal life: According to the Bible, “the hare ._._. is a chewer of the cud.” (Leviticus 11:6) François Bourlière (The Natural History of Mammals, 1964, page_41) says: “The habit of ‘refection,’ or passing the food twice through the intestine instead of only once, seems to be a common phenomenon in the rabbits and hares. Domestic rabbits usually eat and swallow without chewing their night droppings, which form in the morning as much as half the total contents of the stomach. In the wild rabbit refection takes place twice daily, and the same habit is reported for the European hare.” In this regard, the work Mammals of the World (by E._P._Walker, 1964, Volume_II, page 647) states: “This may be similar to ‘chewing the cud’ in ruminant mammals.”

Knock yourself out, I like this one:

http://www.biblegateway.com/

BTW I own nine or ten bibles... can't understand why people who know nothing about the bible want to argue about what is in it.

Back on topic: So if religion is a construct of the human imagination is not evolution also a construct of the human imagination?

Christian bible? The first half is the old testament which are the Jewish Scriptures the second half is the new testament where Jesus show up (the part the Jews don't believe)
The Muslim scripture is the Koran, written by Mohammad, I have one but haven't read it yet however it doesn't get quoted much.

Evolution (the process) is an observable fact. The theory of evolution is how we explain the evolution we see occuring today (and for which there is abundant evidence for evolution that has already occured). Your suggestion is kind of like suggesting that plate tectonics is a construct of the human imagination. Or gravity.
