Red Hot Chili Peppers

Just picked up the new CD yesterday. If you're a 'Pepper's fan...it kicks ass! These guys are so tight the older they get and the studio quality of the recordings are amazing. Highly recommended.

they used to play locally in the late 80s... every other weekend, $1 cover or listen free outside .. never went myself

cstreit 06-13-2006 07:20 AM

I dunno... Mothers Milk was the last album of the Chili's I bought... ...cause I didn't like where they went... I think they kind of sold out myself.

Tobra 06-13-2006 07:22 AM

My brother opened for them a few times, they rock

Your comments suggest they were not sell outs from day one. Frat boy music.

Yes, I used to be a frat boy

Its called MATURITY. I saw/heard their new vid, and I liked it. They have slowed down on their frenitic style.

Sell Out, *****. Everybody sells out.

Mulhollanddose 06-13-2006 09:50 AM

As much as I think their politics are as juvenile and simple-minded as they come, I love their music...always have.

Drago 06-13-2006 12:29 PM

I saw them open for Pearl Jam on the last concert of the '00 tour. Fantastic show. I'll have to pickup thier latest.

If they cut out "California" from their lyrics, what would they be left with.:) I like them, especially when singing "Under the Bridge" since I have about the same vocal range as the singer.

They lost it after Mother's Milk and they tried to become Jane's Addiction

They even went so far to get Dave Navvaro for a while.

Fruiscante is an amazing guitarist

John became a useless heroin addict. After trying to help him the band had to give up on him.

Since Flea plays with JA it seemed natural to borrow Dave until John either died or got his crap together.

I would love to catch them in concert.

My son wants to go to the Family Values tour. I am not a fan of 12 hour long concerts but will probably take him.

Les Paul 06-13-2006 02:22 PM

My 18 year old son thinks they sold out 10 years ago.

Flea used to drive me bonkers with his hyperactive antics. I saw the new video and loved it but my son told me they looked like a bunch of Nancy boys. Their parody of those 80's hair bands and they've said some of their heroes is what makes that video such a hoot. They obviously don't take themselves serious.

On a guitar forum I frequent someone pointed out that Dani California sounds amazingly similar to Mary Jane's Last Dance. Damn they were right but I still like the CD. That part at the end where Fru goes nuts with the wah flange is wicked.

OVRSTR 06-13-2006 02:48 PM

Les Paul, I agree about the first couple of chords sounding like Tom Petty, I thought that immediately the first time I listened. If you want to hear an amazing solo, track 13 of the 2nd CD...the ending salvo by Fru is fu*&%ng amazing. I haven't heard a guy go off like that in a while.

Les Paul 06-13-2006 03:14 PM

Damn. 4:20 into the song. I hadn't even gotten to that song yet. Geez it whails and whails. Thanks for the tip.

Mothers milk was more than 10 years ago... More like 15 I think. It came out when I was in college.

They were a frat boy band about the time Mothers Milk came out. I'm talking abotu the days of the serious punk-funk stuff. 'twas awesome!

It coincided with the whole "It's cool to be alternative" movement in the mid-90's... Same thing happened with 9-inch-nails... I was a fan, then one day walked through Frat-jerk row an heard it coming from 2 seperate windows, I knew the end was near...

juanbenae 06-13-2006 03:46 PM

saw them like 20 year ago in chico at the blue max diner, had to be snuck in by a bouncer buddy of mine because i was only 20. anthony (forget his last name) was unreal, real stage presence. that was when they still were doing the single sock on the cock sets still kinda creeepy. that was pre-flea even i think.

they had a beater old tour bus that was broken down out side the venue, but the chico chicks were all over them. i think they may have had sex that night. i know i did not.

I dont know about NIN. I think The Fragile is his best album. It really showed what he was capable of as a musician. I hated it at first, but eventually it warmed on me. With Teeth is not that bad. To me it's more like Pretty Hate Machine. Funny, I hated OK Computer when that came out too. Now it's in my all time top ten.

Hey Toby,

If I'm not mistaken, Flea has always been with the band. I saw them perform at several skate contests back in the mid 80's and he was with them then. Anyone else confirm Flea as a original member?

Cheers,

umgang 06-13-2006 06:47 PM

Watched them in St Louis in the late 1980's- they were incredibly energetic, and rude! At encore time, they came out on the stage in nothing but jock straps. Anothony packed a bunch of thick matted hair into the jock so it was this hairy froth of a patch! They rocked out, went to the bar and drank straight Jack, then walked outside in the freezing snow and got in their limo. Wild.

Flea and Anthony are the founding, (original), members. Hard to keep track of the intervening roster, (Hillel, Dave N., Fruscanti, etc..), but AK and Flea are original.

If I wasn't so broke I would be in Europe right now partying w/ them and going to the shows. That was the original plan for June '06.
