BEAVERS and BASEBALL!
Okay, Sports fans, it's rare that the Oregon State Beavers play for a national championship in ANY sport. But there they are in Omaha, about to take on N. Carolina for the national championship in the College world series, after working their way up through the losers bracket. This is a Cinderella team. The vast majority of these guys grew up playing in small fields in small town Oregon...towns with names like Philomouth, and Drain, populations only a few thousand. Tune in this weekend if you like baseball. No matter how it turns out, this year's Beavers baseball team are an amazing bunch...simply because they are there. No Beavers team in any sport has ever won a national championship.

It was to my understanding that there are some quite excellent looking girls in the Carolinas...

Oh there are...I thought you were talking about an actual "tar heel", not a coed from Chapel Hill...

Always liked Corvallis, great mushrooms, and there was this swimmer I dated who had a twin at OSU...

At least it's good to see two teams in there that are not the usual suspects. Get tired of Texas and Cal State Fullerton winning nearly every year. Great baseball and wish it would never end.

College baseball is great to watch. The only thing I don't like is the ping of the metal bats it just doesn't compare to the crack of wood. But the emotion and desire to win blows away pro sports. Good luck to your Beavers.

Both teams are made up mostly of kids from their respective states. Neither team is one of the perenial powerhouses. That is what is so special about these two schools battling for the national championship.
A friend of ours played under coach Mike Fox before he came to UNC, and has nothing but great things to say about Coach Fox. That was a great game last night. The bad thing about a great game is that both teams can't win. None of the games in this tournament have been blowouts, so no one is really the dominant team. As we saw last night, in a close back and forth game, anything can happen to change the outcome. I am looking forward to another good one tonight. It is sad that another season is just about over. Good luck to both schools, and may the best team win. |
Will,
Good post. I also have trouble 'rooting' for either team but have more connection with Carolina than Oregon. No matter...it's just good baseball played by kids with heart. Seen some really top notch plays that were game turners...like the slide into home last night... One thing on last nights broadcast kind of disturbed me. When the starting pitcher for OSU, Bull I think is his name, was taken out he had a real nasty display of temper in the dugout which the broadcasters kind of praised him for saying he had real desire, etc. Well, that's possibly true but I found that tantrum over the top. Just me, I guess... Look foreward to another game tonight and am considering a trip to Omaha next year if I can get tickets. |
