Simple question.....I hope!!!

I'm ready to seed my new lawn. Last week I sprayed the entire lawn area with 2-4-D herbicide, how long do I have to wait before I can plant????

I've searched many different sites including the manufacturers label but find nothing about how long to wait before planting lawn grass. Anybody know???

Any secret tips to making this new lawn leap up and grow rapidly?

I've heard rumors that freezing the seed before planting helps it germinate better. Any truth to this? or just somebody trying to see if I'll try it??

Freezing should only prolong the life of the seed. Someone will chime in.

Wait at least ten days to two weeks before you plan to sow grass seed.
Broadleaf weeds should start to turn brown in three or four days and be completely dead by the end of the 10 day wait. The herbicide will have begun to break down after ten days, so new grass seedlings will not be harmed.
To be extra safe, water the area judiciously at the end of your waiting period to leach the weed agent down past existing roots.

Broadcast "starter fertilizer" at half the suggested rate prior to seeding, then half the rate after seeding. That's what I do, but nothing un-American about following instructions on seed package.
Depending on ambient temps, generally, on flat earth, water 10 min's twice daily...out here, I would water at ~ 10 a.m. and at ~ 2 p.m. YMMV.
Check your soil...too much water will kill the seed.

Overseeding rates for lawn turf should range minimally from five to ten pounds of seed per 1000 square feet.
Double that if the turf is expected to withstand much traffic.

Let new seedlings get to be ~ 4" tall prior to mowing.
Don't water the night before and the day you intend to mow...and mow w/super sharp blade!

I've never heard of freezing seed.

I just had about a 1,000 square feet of grungy lawn dug up and hauled away. Nothing but dirt now and I will lay sod, but discovered the gardenweb forum folks generally oppose using a rototiller. Evidently, they (the tillers, not the folks) end up causing irregular surfaces.

i went 7 days with roundup. no issues.

I put fresh sod down lat summer and the summer of 2004 and I use Ringer's Lawn Restore (Woodstream Inc.) and I buy it at my local Home Depot. It's 100% organic and impossible to overfertilize or screw up your lawn. The results are fantastic and all I do is water, mow and fertilize 4 times a year. The Ringer's helps keep the lawn safe during the winter and the roots are healthy enough to withstand the grubs, drought periods, bugs, kids, bikes, etc...
