Is there still $$ to be made overseas in IT?
Back in my early 20's, I was tempted to take an IT job overseas. Benefits included high pay and no income taxes. But I did not have a sufficient skill set back then and so I stayed home. But now I am curious, is the foreign market still out there? I've got the resume to kill all resumes. So if those jobs still exist, then I am certain I can qualify. Has anybody explored this?

well , the tax incentives, i think those changed, at least in holland it's no longer as easy as 5 years ago when i arrived here...
i think elsewhere in Europe you'll see similar stronger regulation... Oz and New Zealand still seems good , got several friends who moved there, Oz that is , but NZ is probably similar... i tihnk they haver a preference for baby makers ... they need more babies there ... may be someone from that area can confirm or deny... Dubai is still hot for IT as well, if you're willing to take it personally it's to hot a climate for my air cooled hobby, and i have some personal problems working for a nation built on slave labour (Indians , Chinese , working in construction in abismal conditions for zero money, while the boss holds their passport for control purposes)... |
You also have to pay taxes here after the first $75K AFAIK.

Sure there is, if you live in India and barely speak English.

"Resume to kill all resumes"? Foreign countries have smart folk too mowadays - you may have missed the "IT wave". Unless you have exceptionally strong busines skills and an amazing network of influential contacts in high places.
But if you are interested in travelling and making regular Joe $$, sure there are plenty of opportunities! Edit: Tip: When you get there, tell them you are from Canada. I have learned first hand that it is best to be mistakenly associated with "Nickelback" than GWB. ;) |

we have about 5 or 6 engineers that came from the us to our emea office, they all integrated well, none had any problems with anyone who gave em grief over beeing american... sure you'll have to take the occasional joke , or discussion about "stoopid bush" but that counts for every expat, we make just as much fun with the germans , the french, the english, and me beeing a belgian , i get flack as well here in Holland... i'm sure it's no different in UK , Germany ,Belgium or France... as long as you don't start parading with the stars and stripes , dressed in desert camo, screaming on the top of your lungs that you are looking for terrorists you wanna haul off to guantanamo... you'll be just fine... |
Not too different over here in reality Stijn - comment was tongue in cheek.
