On July 19 the Associated Press and Reuter's reported an "amazing find" at a museum in Allentown, Pennsylvania: A copy of a letter dated March 16, 1861, and signed by Abraham Lincoln imploring the governor of Florida to rally political support for a constitutional amendment that would have legally enshrined slavery in the U.S. Constitution.

Actually, the letter is not at all "amazing" to anyone familiar with the real Lincoln. It was a copy of a letter that was sent to the governor of every state urging them all to support the amendment, which had already passed the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives, that would have made southern slavery constitutionally "irrevocable," to use the word that Lincoln used in his first inaugural address. The amendment passed after the lower South had seceded, suggesting that it was passed with almost exclusively Northern votes. Lincoln and the entire North were perfectly willing to enshrine slavery forever in the Constitution. This is one reason why the great Massachusetts libertarian abolitionist Lysander Spooner, author of The Unconstitutionality of Slavery, hated and despised Lincoln and his entire gang.

The Lincoln cult knows about all of this, but works diligently to keep it out of view of the general public. The fact that news organizations reported the "find," however, creates a problem for the cult. A cover-up/excuse-making campaign must commence.

No, but the referenced article contains quite a bit of information on where it was found and where it resides today. The copy, one of many sent out by Lincoln to the various govenors of the states and to congressmen by Lincoln, is in Pennsylvania. Lincoln's first inaugural address references the amendment.

Seriously, Lincoln never had slavery in mind as something which needed revocation. His interests was in keeping the states together. Economy trumps skin color, particularly as it bends over and sings sweetly while picking cotton.

Was the DNA evidence actually linked to Thomas Jefferson, or merely one of the several males in the Jefferson family. The last I heard, it was the latter.

The Confederate States seceded from the Union, what Lincoln did is invade the south initiating a War to revoke that lawful action. His unlawful invasion was responsible for the deaths of almost one million Americans.

I'm sure those who hold Abe in esteem are ashamed of his efforts to preserve the Union without bloodshed.

Lincoln chose bloodshed by illegally invading the Confederate States of America, a sovereign nation.

Fortunately, that isn't what the facts are. Lincoln and his associates bear 100% of the cause of the War Against Southern Freedom. The southern states had the right to secede, and they did so. Obeying the law or acting within your rights cannot be said to cause anything of the sort you're saying.

The facts, as I have read them, certainly are that the slave states knew full well that secession would result in war between north and south. I'm sure South Carolina was simply trying to keep secession peaceful when it fired on American soldiers.

We Confederates need to educate people so that they may learn what they lost, and to assist them in not repeating their mistakes from the past. Lincoln was a dangerous buffoon in the White House, there's a dangerous buffoon in the White House today.

When, not if, a state decides to secede, everyone else needs to say, "so long and good luck" and then conduct business as usual, including trade and exchange with the seceded state.

Keep in mind that there could easily be a non-southern state that decides on secession in the future. It was afterall, the New England states that held a large meeting to initiate secession (in about 1813 or so) well before the southern states actually did secede.

The linkage between Sally Hemings sons and Thomas Jefferson is through patrilineal inheritance of the Y chromosome. Only sons of sons of sons etc. can be linked. The father of Hemings last son was either Thomas Jefferson or his brother Randolph. Hemings did not meet Jefferson till after the death of his wife. She was 1/4 black and became his chambermaid. Her rooms were close to Thomas Jeffersons, while Randolph was only an occasional visitor to Monticello.

Sally Hemings had seven children. At least two lived as whites. All were very possibly the children of Thomas Jefferson.
