Australian auto prices...Yikes!!!!

Helping a friend in Gold Coast look for a car. The prices on upper-end cars are insane here! $80,000 USD for a standard boxster?!?!?!

Yep - welcome to oz. The second hand story is not a whole lot better. We get stung on cars across the board - not just porsches.

gavinlit 08-06-2006 08:21 PM

very nice place to live though

Not much better in Sweden. Not least with older Porsche cars. I am always impressed with the small amount of money changing hands in US.

It is.

I was going to do a write up when I get home to Seattle.

Australia is great. Moreover, Aussies are good folk.

Favorite local lingo:

tah = thank you

good on you = well done, good job.

next shout is mine = I'll get the next round.

Thats until you see the movie 'Wolf Creek'. No worries mate...

gavinlit 08-07-2006 01:17 PM

yep, the cost of porker ownership may be a bit high but otherwise there's not too much to complain about.

Despite the prices of cars (luxury car tax), it is a great country though... :)

So you're saying run of the mill cars are priced similar to USA prices?

Nope - we get stitched up on the mundane stuff too.

You can't own a gun here though so you blokes would be fish out of water. When push comes to shove, it's sleeves up and good old fashioned Marquis of Queensbury rules. None of this hiding behind a gun like a girl rubbish.....;)

lisa_spyder 08-09-2006 10:33 PM

Correction Victor...

You can own a gun here - as long as you tell the powers that be the colour of grandmas's underwear along with a whole lot of other stuff - but a pistol? Well then you need to disclose all....and then some...and get fingerprinted and be an active member of the right handgun club and on it goes...I know from personal experience.

After all that, you can't carry a weapon unless you are on the way to and from the gunclub or off to the gun dealer or going hunting (whatever your permit allows)...and you need the appropriate licences...and it all costs of course!

Cheers,
Lisa
