Here in N. Cal. there is a tattoo shop about every block. If you do get one go to an artist that can draw out a design not some common rub on design. Working at a college I see tats on folks every day. I would say one in three have one.

Tattoos and piercings are kept covered where I work (Ford Motor Co World Headquarters). I'm sure some folks have them but they aren't on display at work. My best friend has two full sleeves and he also works at Ford, he keeps them completely covered while at work...

I'm sorry if this offends, but I believe most people associate tats with:
gangs, criminals, former prisoners and fringe members of society. I don't neccesarily feel this way unless the tat is an obvious gang piece. I knew a guy that has a lynching image on his arm. Pretty tough to welcome him in to meet the family and friends. I hope he had that removed... With the "Yazzies", tats are not looked at favorably in Japan...at all. Sure, time will change that. KT

My work requires that any tattoos one might have be covered. The general public does not want to see their airline captain with a tattoo.
With that said, I have one that wraps all the way around my upper right arm and I got it at the place where many people feel the tattoo originated - the South Pacific. Mine represents the many different aspects of the ancient Polynesian culture - the sea, the fish, the mountains, the people, the sunrise over the ocean... Most all Polynesians have Tattoos, some more than others. The guy who gave me mine is one of the best known tattooists in the islands and his name is Tihoti. He's a great guy who believes in his ancient culture. I considered him the perfect person to give me one. By the way, you give him an idea of what you want by looking through the examples of the thousands he's done in his life and then he free-hands the tattoo in the style that his ancestors used. No two are ever alike. I got it because mine meant something to me to have it and I wanted something to always remind me of the Polynesians. It wraps all the way around my arm like an arm band (boy did it burn when he got to the underside of my arm). ![]() Last edited by 450knotOffice; 08-16-2006 at 09:27 PM.. |

When I was a young n', I'd look at the wanted posters in the post office. I noticed that these posters always listed tattoos, design & location. I decided right then no tattoos for me. That would make the cops job easier. I guess you could say I wanted to keep my career options open.

I have a tat on my neck and I always wear collared shirts to work so that no one can see it. I also have one on my arm which I also hide.
