Motion! Need a tax deduction? Ferrari donation:
http://www.prnewswire.com/cgi-bin/stories.pl?ACCT=109&STORY=/www/story/09-12-2006/0004430555&EDATE=
LOS ANGELES, Sept. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- A private owner of one of the most famous performance cars in history, an Enzo Ferrari, has donated the rare, $1 million automobile to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital to help children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases. The motor car will be offered for sale during the live auction at the fourth annual Runway For Life(R), the prestigious, high-wattage, celebrity fashion event on September 15 at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, Calif. The donor of this generous gift wishes to remain anonymous, and the auctioneer will be Andrea Fiuczynski, president of Christie's Los Angeles. This marks the second time that an Enzo has come up at public auction to benefit a charity. Launched in 2003 by Ferrari, only 399 of these exotic Enzos were ever manufactured and sold. One additional car was built and presented to Pope John Paul II by Ferrari, which was later auctioned for tsunami relief. The Enzo Ferrari up for bid at Runway For Life(R) is model year 2003, U.S. specification, with 1,300 miles and features a red exterior with black interior. The car is being offered by its original owner and has been garaged and maintained at a Ferrari workshop. All books, tools and custom luggage are included with the car. Bidding on the car will begin at $875,000. Car aficionados will note the Enzo's racecar styling, 650hp 12-cylinder engine, carbon ceramic brakes and the ability to go from 0-60 in 3.3 seconds with a top speed of 217 mph. The legendary Ferrari V12 at the heart of this super car ensures that it is among the fastest street-legal cars in the world. The scissor doors, carbon fiber body, steering wheel mounted controls, and sequential paddle-shift transmission reflect the most advanced concepts in Formula 1 racing technology. Interested bidders are asked to email rani@pop.net for further information about the auction. About Runway For Life (R) and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital: Runway For Life(R) event co-founders, Terre Thomas, daughter of St. Jude founder Danny Thomas, and close family friend Robert Ellis inaugurated Runway For Life(R) in 2002. To date, the event has raised more than $3.25 million to honor Danny Thomas' dream that "no child should die in the dawn of life." For more information or to purchase tickets for the September 15 event at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, please call 310.996.1188. St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is internationally recognized for its pioneering work in finding cures and saving children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases. Founded by the late entertainer Danny Thomas and based in Memphis, Tennessee, St. Jude freely shares its discoveries with scientific and medical communities around the world. No family ever pays for treatments not covered by insurance, and families without insurance are never asked to pay. St. Jude is financially supported by ALSAC, its fundraising organization. I wonder if there are two auctions, one for the front half and one for the rear half.
Sorry - couldn't resist. It's really a great and worthwhile way to raise money for a deserving charity.
