Here are pictures of the new Toyota Tundra. What do you think?

Looks like every other truck on the road, but I will say this: I drove a Tundra after suffering under the burden of Dodge RAM 2500 ownership for a year. The difference was like night and day. My Dodge felt like a dilapidated piece of farm equipment, while the Tundra drove like a nice sedan.

it looks like they tried to move the wheels closer to the ends of the vehicle, but it makes it look really l o n g.

Looks funny. What's with the wheel base and the rear tires being so far back?
IMO, the Japanese haven't had much like with full size truck styling. The mid-size trucks look fine.

Noce truck...wait for the diesel - but either way it will last for ever with very little ownership costs.

Exterior looks funny. Seats look comfy. Interior looks nice. Ditch the SATNAV. I will be very interested when Toyota puts a diesel in it, and I hope that is sooner rather than later.

Looks goofy with such a long wheelbase, relatively low ride height, and what seems to be a small tire OD.
I think the current Tundra looks better.

Looks like an F-150 - which I'm sure they're targeting!

Glad to see they ditched the suicide doors. I remember in tight parking spots, try pulling a suitcase (or any decent sized object/box) out of the backseat and closing the doors, in order, avoiding yourself, avoiding the object you just pulled out, and without dinging the car in the space next to you. Anyone who has owned an ext cab pickem up knows what I'm talking about.
Those Tundras are damn reliable though.

Styling has never been a strong point of Japanese cars, IMO.
But that's not too bad. The 4 door long bed one looks a little ungainly, but I think that's hard to avoid with that extremely long configuration. The interior is odd. Looks like two different dashboards photoshopped together! Overall, it looks like it is something that will sell well. |

The stretched wheelbase makes sense for load hauling. The more the load weight is between the front & rear wheels, the less likely the steering will get "light". This is why the VW pickup based on a rabbit had problems. A max load in the rear meant no front wheel traction...

As one who needs an 8' bed pretty frequently, I think:
A- It is probably a fine piece of machinery, B- The styling makes me wretch. There is not a new truck on ther market I truely like. I'm keeping my used one around. The last Chevy got me over 200,000 miles. Hope this one does too. |
