Pretty neat car.

I like it. But I think I like the video presentation just as much. :)

legion 09-30-2006 08:30 AM

Nice.

Anyone know what these things will go for?

CJFusco 09-30-2006 09:54 AM

Good-looking car. Kinda looks like they are imitating the Veyron look a little.

aknapp 09-30-2006 01:38 PM

Not a bad looking car overall, but I don't like the "blades" behind the doors. IMHO, the blades interrupt the crease lines on the front and rear fenders, ruining the flow of the overall design.

MichiganMat 09-30-2006 02:29 PM

Sick. Hella sick.
Cayman killer?

MichiganMat 09-30-2006 02:33 PM

I spoke too soon.
Gallardo platform.
420 Hp AWD
Somewhere between $80K - $110K

Sex on wheels:

Intended to be a 911 killer, even a 911 Turbo killer.

They make the Veyron, and the Murcielago, and the Gallardo.

I'm kinda dissapointed in the price. If they could put it in the 50-70k range, they would have a blockbuster.

dd74 09-30-2006 06:20 PM

$80-$110K - hmmm. Possibly a GT-3 killer?

Not badly priced, actually...

legion 09-30-2006 06:26 PM

Badly priced for me as it won't fall to a level that I could actually acquire it in the next 15 years.

Not as good a deal as the Ford GT though.

(Just stirring the pot dd;))

I really like the car, too. Given standard Audi depreciation, they will be 50-70 in a year or two. A bargain Gallardo clone...

techweenie 10-01-2006 02:46 PM

Me likey.

It'll be interesting to see if it's a quick success at that price point. I suspect it will be more successful than the VW Phaeton, but they'd be well advised to keep the US-bound production #s low.

Steve PH 10-01-2006 03:18 PM

I guess this will be priced rather carefully so as to fit inbetwean various Porsche models and not compete directly, now that Porsche has a steak in the VW-Audi group.

Very smart looking car though, if I had the cash I would be tempted.

Scooter 10-01-2006 08:41 PM

Interesting looking:

Jim Bremner 10-01-2006 09:45 PM

yup, but it's an audi...it will weight in at 4,200 pounds.

edit, dude...their selling it to the nascar crowd...it runs on ovals!
please for the love of GOD make it turn to the right!

LOL!

I finally saw a GT in its true setting - on Coldwater Canyon. I can't disagree with anyone who says the car is a head turner.

Porsche-O-Phile 10-01-2006 11:04 PM

Pure sex. They've mixed all the best design features of their own marquee, Ford (Mustang), Bugatti (Veyron), Lamborghini (Gallardo), etc. Very well-done.

The pricing is kind of crazy, but given the work and technology that's in the car, I guess it's sort of to be expected.

Anyone else feel that Audi is quickly becoming what Porsche USED to be? It seems like these days, you pay for the name if you buy a P-car and you pay for the performance & quality if you buy an Audi.

On that note I test-drove a '02 TT Quattro Roadster today. Very impressed although it wasn't as fast as I expected. Very tight and good-feeling though. I'm debating dumping my 951 in favor of it. . . I'm sleeping on it for a couple of days before I commit to anything though. I'm damn impressed with what I saw in the Audi showroom though - very nice stuff.

Audi makes great products. Back in the day, I couldn't figure out who was more impressive - Michelle Mouton who used to hook Quattro rally cars backward around dirt hairpins, or the Quattro itself.

Is Audi taking over from Porsche? I don't know, actually. The watercooled cars haven't been given their time yet, as far as I'm concerned, but I highly doubt they're as strong as the air cooled 911s. With that said, I'd consider a 997, Cayman S and possibly even a Boxster S over the Audi R8. By that, I only mean I'd look at the Porsches first. Then I'd hoof it down to Audi and look very critically at the R8.
