Lebanese still dying in the "truce."
3-4 Lebanese a day are dying from unexploded bomblets from the cluster bombs (area denial weapons) used by the Israelies in Southern Lebanon.
Some of the cluster bombs the Israelis used were made and supplied by us. It seems we can't do much right in the mideast. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/middle_east/6065574.stm

Considering that I just returned from Beirut might have a bit of knowledge in the area.
The Christian Lebanese are for the most part sitting back and watching this unfold. They have been dominated by the Moslems for years now and this war is all their doing, not the Christian Lebonese or Israeli's. These are the people I feel sorry for, as they had nothing to do with this action. Remember that Hezbollah kidnapped the Israeli soldier, and kept shelling Northern Israel for years with Iranian rockets, not the other way around, killing numerous civilians. Considering that the Moslem Lebanonese started much of this, and have been killing civilians right and left, many might just say that they are now getting what they deserve. Techie, this is war, and in war people get killed. Hezbollah knew this before they started it, but now admit that they did not realize that the response would be so strong. Good! Hope the next time they think about doing something they will think twice about it. Oh yea, we possibly did supply some of the cluster bombs dropped in Lebanon. So what? Are you silly enough to think that if the Israeli's did not get them from us that they would not have purchased them from China or Russia? Are the cluster bombs from China or Russia non lethal? Do they spray out paint balls that simply let you know that you did something stupit by picking up a bomblet or are you just as dead by any bomb no matter where its made?

If only they were Hezbolla.
![]() Cluster bombs are bad shiit for the civilians that return. Not my idea of a good weapon to use by a country having a high view of its own morals.

Oh, those dirty Joooos!
This just in: Human Rights Watch said that Hezbollah -- which launched nearly 4,000 rockets into Israel during the war -- had used Chinese-made Type-81 122 millimeter rockets, "the first confirmed use of this particular model of cluster munition anywhere in the world". http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20061019/wl_mideast_afp/mideastconflict

Reardon, I think the moral equivalence angle is weak, don't you? And for the record, I'm all for killing Hezbollah. I think it's a great and noble cause. Just not in favor of cluster bombs, regardless of who uses them. That's kinda simple and clear, right?

The thread started by US=cluster bombs=bad.
WE didn't USE the munitions. We sold them. Hezbolla uses area-denial munitions="Well, that's to be expected, isn't it?" Wow.

How does one differ between selling a weapon to someone and having the "someone" use it to kill and maim? Is either party "more guilty" than the other?

How do you sue an airplane manufacturer for an accident caused by pilot error?
Do you blame Smith & Wesson for a criminal's use of their product in the commission of a crime?

It seems as if a just and rightous response to an unprovoked attack is enough to set off our resident lefties, if munitions used in that response were supplied by us. Or if the responding nation is supported by us. So, let me clarify just a bit. Friend of U.S. responds to unprovoked attack and uses U.S. made munitions to do so = bad. Enemy of U.S. initiates unprovoked attack against civilian population in neighboring country, but using Communist Chinese made muntitions = good. It is truly a mixed-up world in which our beloved lefties live.

Cluster bombs are a good thing. They are good at killing our enemies before they kill us.
Now, before we go and start feeling sorry for these people, lets remember that Lebanon started it. They used cluster bombs. They allowed hezbollah to take over part of their government and occupy their country and fire weapons into Israel and kill israelies, all without lifting a finger to stop them. In fact just the opposite, they supported the hezbollah terrorists. Over and over again, they provided support and allowed the terrorists to operate at will because the terrorists were carrying out what they wanted. Lebanon is a terrorist state. And now the opportunistic cut and paste liberals are trying to use this to stir up emotion and pity for these same people to support their feeble political stance. shame on you. Thinking back I can't remember a single instance when anyone from lebanon said or did anything against the hezbollah. Not a single instance. IMO They got what they deserved and what they asked for. They are lucky it stopped where it did. |

Some of the posts above are not worth the effort to respond to. They show a total disregard for the value of human life. Just keep in mind, its an accident of birth that you werenot born Lebanese. Not all the people over there are terrorists, nor are they guilty of anything except the bad luck of being born over there rather than somewhere else.
Generalizations that lump all of the people in the middle east really suck and show a lack of human compassion we usually reserve for the "other side". The pics are a great diversion, though...Thanx!!

Bob,
They are nice people for the most part. Problem is that the Moslem faction are having kids at 7-8 per family, while the Christians are around 2-3 per family. In the last 20 years the Moslem numbers have exploded and have now taken over the country. The Moslems there are being pushed by Syria, who is in turn a puppet of Iran. The native people of Lebanon are not the ones supporting Hezbollah and pushing for war against Israel. Problem is that you really do not find that out until you go there as the news media choose not to report about it.
