How Much do you Fly?

I'm hitting another "Platinum" year with Continental. Other than our employed pilots, who here flys a lot each year?

masraum 11-09-2006 05:48 AM

I used to be platinum. I travelled for work. I really enjoyed it. Since then I only get a couple of trips a year and never even close to getting a status on Continental.

Was Platinumn for several years, then worked my way down the ladder with less travel. Now I'm Platinum at home instead. :D

Elite Qualifying Miles on NW this year is 160k, should hit 200k by the end of the year... that will be a Platinium more than twice over.

James,

I am Gold or Plat as I fly airline to pick up the jet, so pilots can be upper tier as well. Marriott knows me well and I made plat with them by summer...

Gold with AA

I'm at 60 flights with West Jet this year.
I sometimes get an extra pack of "Cookie's or Pretzel snack Sir?".

Ah well, I do have a bunch of Air miles.

I don't do enough U.K. or U.S. flights (3 or 4 a year) to warrant joining any "plan".

I think if you hit more than 1 million miles in a year, they immediately hire you and you get to start flying the jets.

Way too much ... got Executive Platinum with American even before they announced the program (over 2 million miles in less than 10 years), now I'm platinum for life with AA.

Million miler in 4 airlines ... as I said ... way too much.

Wow.

And too think I was going to ***** about how much I travel.

Carry on.:)

The last time I flew was back in '92...I found the whole experience to be demeaning, uncomfortable, and a giant PITA.
I can only imagine how bad it is today, post 9-11-01. If I can't find an alternative to flying, it's a simple decision to not go...(edit)
It's not the cost...my longtime buddy often offered me "comp" flights when he flew for American. I turned all of them down, though South America was tempting when it was winter here...

efhughes3 11-09-2006 05:29 PM

Re-qualified for Platinum on AA the beginning of October....

Premiere Exec w/United...just redeemed miles for Jeanette and me to go to Maui in three weeks...

Used to fly quite a lot, in the bubble was spending >$50K/yr on travel - hated it and was a real headache running that through my credit card and tracking the reimbursements, plus were too many red-eyes.

Now only fly about 1X per month and mostly just hops up and down the West Coast, stick w/ Southwest when possible, try to only fly to JFK/BOS a few times a year and take JetBlue whenever I can. My travel bill has come down to about $7K/yr and I am much happier.

Used to make gold level, but fortunately those years are behind me. Now just a few trips a year, business and personal, just not enough to qualify.

Same thing here, Exec Platinum with AA even before they announced it. Have been every year since. Million miler in various airlines.

Writing from the Admirals Club in Chile.........

Not too much fun anymore but pays for the toys!

Any Pelican Pilots flying the south american and UK routes?

imcarthur 11-10-2006 05:39 PM

Elite = Gold Equivalent. But 40 or so short hops per year <3 hr so it's hard to build miles. And then I drive an average of 700 miles when I get there. So lots of Hertz face time too. Love the new Hampton beds!
