Dang, i have to advertise my years of being a part time chef to pay for school more often to the babes

The quickest way I tell if someone knows how to cook is how they cut stuff and the amount of gadgets in the kitchen.

you need to factor in divorce. I'm actually a pretty good cook but the ex got custody of all the small kitchen appliances. Including the Francis Francis expresso machine. And I could either replace them or spend money on the track car.

The saltine cracker packets that people get with their takeout soup, covered in duck sauce from the little packets you get with chinese food, washed it down with water. I did find a hot mustard packet at the time so that helped to spice things up a bit.

You all are gourmets.

Before getting hitched, I'd sometimes eat cold chili straight outta the can, once using a popsicle stick.

And I've never been thirstier than the time I ate a pound of beef jerky for dinner.

Oh, and I've never been more regular than the week I ate cereal and popcorn. Only.

i know plenty of good cooks that cut stuff irregulary and slowly, but they have the creativity in them to try new things on their own , as opposed to those who always cook by the numbers from a cookbook...

then i know others that couldn't cook a bloody hamburger if you take the cookbook away, they can't even make a variation on a known theme...

myself, i'm sort of ok with a chopping knife, i'm well sloppy , if i'm supposed to cut julienne ( 2mill by 4 cm) i'll have a 5 mill variation... in lenght and thickness, enough to give a proper chef a heart attack if it happens during service...

but in the end, that's just presentation , food won't taste any bit better if you chop like a robot.

same for gagets... i have very little of em, my appartement is small, and my kitchen even smaller... my biggest gaget is my one good chef knife... and it's from Ikea... i've used pro knifes when i worked in a gourmet resto.. and i assure you , the one from Ikea is just as good for a home user... it's sharp , has the right size, shape, weight, and a good handle...

I will never eat another.

My personal low-point in college was when my two roommates and I split a dozen doughnuts for dinner...three nights in a row. Odd thing was, we paid a different price every night. Still can't figure that part out.

You can gormet up some Ramen if you've got a few things around the fridge. I like to put in an egg about halfway through the noodle boil time, it really does the trick. Or a bit of tofu works too.

Mac-n-cheese is easy too. Put in some frozen brocolli with the noodles and add lots of pepper when is done. I like to add some chopped red pepper at the end as well, fresh, not boiled.

For spaghetti, fry up an italian sausage and add sause, bring to simmer. Brats work wonders too.

I hate not having good food around the house.

My roommate eats terribly: fast food, sodas all day, cheap cereal. He knows how to make spaghetti and beef stroganoff too, nothing but carbs and starch. One day he decides he's going to "get in shape" and starts a heavy workout routine. 2 weeks later, his appendix bursts. Brilliant.

There was the time I ordered four large pizzas and that was all I ate for weeks. Well until I got stopped up. Went to the doctor and got two enemas...

Good cooks usually cut stuff with confidence, not gingerly. They also tend to not have many gadgets, just the basics.

Lived alone for one year during Med school. 9 out of 10 days I had macaroni with ketchup both lunch and dinner.....for almost a whole year.

Kind of grows on you.

Saved my money for the regular pub evenings.
