Try to Break a $20

Try this "social experiment". Ask around the office and see how many people can break a $20 bill - (2) $10s or (2) $5s and a $10 or mix in some $1s.

I tried to do this today at work and I must have asked twenty people. Nobody could break a $20. I guess people don't carry cash or maybe our company doesn't pay enough.

How much cash do you have in your wallet on any average day?

None,

Soemhow whenever I have cash my wife needs exactly $1 less than I have on me. She must check my pockets at night.

as little as possible, IMO the presence of ATM is responsible for people having nothing but twenties in their pockets.

Who the hell carries cash anymore?

Actually I do have two 20s and a 10 stashed away for emergency, but I don't consider that to "really" be there.

When I was young and single, I always had at least $200 in my wallet, and almost nothing in the bank.

Now that I'm old and married and have kids I have a whoooooole bunch O'money in the bank, and $3 in my wallet.

$5

I rarely have more than $20 without a specific reason for using it.

I like to keep enough for a fill up, a meal, and perhaps something if an activity comes up(such as karting, whatever). Normaly, when I get cash from my paychecks, I take it in twenties, so I don't have change for a twenty enless I've picked it up from spending twenties and getting change.

I don't get to the ATM much, so I tend to take out $500-$1000 at a whack. Depending on where I am in the cycle, my answer could be any of the above.

I do use AMEX for a lot (5% cash rebate on gas & groceries), but I am far too impatient to swipe a card for a $5 take out lunch at Wendy's.

Too many deals on the street are cash only.
$100 down will hold almost anything that's for sale.
I wouldn't leave the house without a couple hundred bucks.

All my money is tied up in CASH!!!

Seriously - I usually have between 40 and $150 in my wallet, but can never make change for a $20. The reason, it I spend most of one $20 before moving on to the next one...

Pretty much same here. I've started to not use cc's except online...pay cash otherwise.
I spend less using cash only.
I pull $1k cash at a time from my bank when I deposit checks...that goes into my safe.
When my wallet is down to $100, I pull 5 20's from the safe...long time habit.

I keep 2 20's hidden on each moto...10 motos.
Also same in each vehicle...5 of them.
There's a sense of lack w/o good cash with me...not unlike being on the road w/o heat.

Most of my jobs are $25-$30,000+. since it usually takes longer for a deposited check to clear than it takes for me to complete the job. I pay for everything in cash I don't have the money, I don't buy it.. one day I might have a ridiculous amount of money, next day a few hundred. on any given day I'd have to count it to see how much I have on me.. it just seems to disappear so fast with all I have to spend on materials and equipment, I have a hard time keeping track of where it's gone. Don't think I'd bother leaving the house with out a few hundred cash in hand. it's not like it's actually MY money, there's really not much left for ME after expenses.. it's just so much more fun spending all those $100 bills than signing my name on a receipt.

I usually start the week with ~60 that I use for lunch throughout the week. Helps me stay in budget, but I rarely have change for a twenty.

Well, I still have quite a bit of Trip Cash left over...

$231 USD
$30 CAN
$325 EUR
200 French Francs (need to get rid of them the next time I'm France)
176 RON (Romanin New Lei)
2740 Mexican Pesos

And while the USD & Euros are in my Wallet, the rest I do actually carry with me.

I usually have $80-$120 cash in my wallet, tend to be 50's and 20's though, a few 5's and 1's would have a hard time breaking a 20. Also keep spending cash in my safe, not to mention my coin and currency collection.
