Crosswind Landings...
It's been up before, but I never get tired of watching this. Nice treat at the end (747 in old HK airport):

If I'm not mistaken, those 777 clips were made during testing. I seem to remember them doing them in Iceland, I think, as there are tremendous crosswinds at some airport up there.

Think so, I've seen 'em too - think it had to do with getting the swivel-able main gear certified or something.
Crazy-arse shots though. Those bring back a few memories of flying into some of the places on the Oregon coast in winter. . . Never had to quite crab it THAT much though!

I think these test are shot in Brazil. Here's the discussion from an earlier thread.
Iceland was recently used by Airbus: Quote:

I love watching the B52's come in on final over our house for BAFB...Wish more commercial planes hade steerable centerline gear...just have to have a WIDE runway for the wingtip "training wheels"...makes it look SO easy.

Amazing what a good pilot can do.
The guys that got me home safe to BWI today did a great job. The plane was all over the place, little 'firm' on the landing, but we made it in 1 piece. |
