Marshall Silver Jubilee amp..Should I buy it?
A friend is offering me his 1987 50w/25w Silver Jubilee head in pristine condition with fresh checkup from noted amp d00d, plus both flight case and padded soft case, for $1100.
I already have: 1980 Fender Twin Reverb 1986 Marshall JCM800 2205 head modded to remoe diode clipping and restore JMP MK2 circuitry 1983 Dean Spectra 30w all tube combo with 1 12" GT-whatever it is celestion 1 4x12 marshall jcm800 slant cab with 4 celestion greenbacks 1 2x12 marshall 1936 cab with whatever celestion come with that 1 2x12 carvin cab with crappy eminence speakers 1 behringer 15w 'modelling' amp. (junk - for bedroom practice) 1 epiphone 5w class A all tube head - being modified as we speak for recording purposes The JCM800 is my live rig. The Silver Jubilee is way too nice to be a gigging amp...the question for you other guitarists is how much do you think this amp will appreciate in coming years and is it worth picking up for its rarity? TIA

Seems to me like that stuff is appreciating more than I would have ever thought. To the point where some of the 'real' guitar shops now have 'vintage' equipment rooms. makes me wish I still had my '73 Deluxe and Acoustic 270 6x10 cab. Still have the 270 head and an Ampeg VT-40 4x10 combo.

Dan, you obviously will have space problems with all your gear and that Silver Jubilee amp coming in. There's where I can help. Just ship me your Twin Reverb (heck, I'll cover shipping) and you should have enough room to breathe. Just glad to help out.

I can't part with the ole Twin in spit of *rarely* playing through it. It was my first good amp. I'm thinking that a lap steel will sound nice through it if and when I become proficient... The other guitarist in the band I just left got rid of his marshalls and now plays out through a deluxe reverb. That little amp screams. I'll tell you one thing - My Twin Reverb is the loudest amp I have EVER heard. Makes the marshall sound tinny!

LOL! Just kidding, Dan. Somehow, I don't think my condo neighbors would be enamored with my sorry attempts at playing music through a Twin Reverb. Better I stick with the V-Amp-2 and headphones

![]() Dan, have you tried wiring the twin into a 4x12 cabinet? $1100 seems a little steep for a silver jubilee, but none of this stuff is getting any cheaper. Given what the vintage guitar market is doing right now, I really think the vintage tube amps are going to go nuts soon. If you've ever wanted a particular piece of older gear, you should buy it while you can afford it, IMO. Last edited by Shuie; 12-01-2006 at 11:54 AM.. |

A couple of the guitarists in my bands have played through those Twin Reverb things for rehearsal but they tended to take Marshalls to gigs. And yes, those little fukkers will surprise you with their volume and clarity. Bone-splitting highs, especially.
