Words of Wisdom?

The following are some interesting quptes I cam across. Anyone care to guess the author?

"Laws were never meant to be understood and it is foolish to make the attempt."

"Always when there's trouble, there's a way out of it, if you can find it.""When we have the least reason for getting into trouble, something is sure to go wrong."

"Nothing is gained by haste. Careful thought may aid us, and so may the course of events. The unexpected is always likely to happen, and cheerful patience is better than reckless action."

"Perhaps it is better to be a machine that does its duty than a flesh-and-blood person who will not, for a dead truth is better than a live falsehood."

"Fear does not make one a coward but I believe it is more easy to avoid danger than to overcome it. The safest way is the best way, even for one who is brave and determined."

"If you think of some dreadful thing, it's liable to happen, but if you don't think of it, and no one else thinks of it, it just can't happen."

"A good many laws seem foolish to those people who do not understand them, but no law is ever made without some purpose, and that purpose is usually to protect all the people and guard their welfare."

"No thief, however skilful, can rob one of knowledge, and that is why knowledge is the best and safest treasure to acquire."

"I've heard that anyone can be conquered with kindness, no matter how ugly they may be."

Thought you folks would like something a bit lighter... Who do you think is the author and do you have any thoughts about any of the above quotes?w

Flatbutt1 12-03-2006 01:13 PM

same person for all of them?

Moneyguy1 12-03-2006 03:15 PM

Yup. Same author.

svandamme 12-03-2006 03:18 PM

must be somebody who is pedantic... full of himself...
dunno why , but it's not the kind of "wisdom" that get's the instant " yes , indeed" response...

Milu 12-03-2006 03:18 PM

I'm not familiar with any of them so a guess - Jeff Cooper?

Moneyguy1 12-03-2006 03:25 PM

Stijn...one could say that; the quotes are from different characters in different (but related) books.

Nope...not Jeff....

bollocks, people are not robots
the day people act as robot's, we might as well discontinue ourselves and let robot's take over.
