marrow bones for dogs question

I bought my dogs some marrow bones from the butcher. They had been refrigerated. I was told to feed them to the dogs raw. That sounded fine at the time. Now that the bones are a few days old are they still OK for the dogs to chew on? I thought they would be gone by now. Should I cook them? Let the dogs finish them as they are? Throw them out?

I simmer them for a few minutes in enough water to cover. Don't overcook, because then they get brittle and will shatter. Boil just until done. Most of the fat will render out.

Dogs tolerate bacteria well, but if they get into too much fat your carpet is in trouble. That's why I cook out most the marrow. I've been doing this for years, it's great the dogs love it.

Oh, I thought you were planning on a bone marrow transplant for your dog, man, that would be expensive!

Don't cook them. I keep them in the freezer. Also they should keep in the reffer for a week. And if they stink a little, it shouldn't matter to the dog. Have you seen the ***** they eat.

Some dogs don't tolerate eating a bunch of marrow and once.

Ok...here's a professional opinion. I am a Vet with 38 years of practice. I can't tell you how many broken/abscessed teeth I've extracted from dogs chewing on real bones. Also they will get chips of bones in their stomach. Sometimes they can digest away the minerals but often they get these chips lined up all the way down the GI tract and are miserable until it all passes. It can be a long three or four days with enemas and pain killers. DON'T DO IT.

Give them digestable chews.
