Just got back from the hospital. I'm feelin no pain due to morephine. I have (had?) a kidney stone. Doc says it is 4mm diameter. The point of this is that it was the worst pain that I have ever had. I've led a rather rough and tumble life, stabbed x2, car wrecks, hit in the mouth with a wrench, hit over the head with metal bar. This was by far the most excruciating pain. My wife said that is similar to childbirth pains. A friend of mine has these things croniclly. It would make you want to take the gas pipe if it happened often.:eek:

Sounds like you're a *******! You need to toughen up a bit. Especially if you keep getting hit with wrenches. Then you need to learn how to drive better. :D
Joking aside! I hope you get better soon! I haven't had a stone removed (yet, fingers crossed) so I can't compare, but I have broke my back and neck. I still feel the pain just about every single day, not kidding. I can count on both hands the number of days I feel really good in a year. At least child birth and this are just temporary. I wish I could have TONS of pain for a few weeks and move on. You should try lots of pain EVERY FU(KIN' day of your life. Seriously, prescription drugs and alcohol keep me going. Sorry I got off on a tangent there, but I do hope you feel better soon.......

Seriously, my dad called me from the hospital when he was on morphine after he got his leg amputated (he had failed to mention the surgery ahead of time). It was one of the most confusing, frustrating, and incoherent conversations I've ever had. He fell asleep in the middle of it and the phone hit the floor...

Brother had one, said had he known how long and painful it would have been he would have told me to shoot him and put him out if his misery.

You sound like you've got a miserable life, at least on a physical basis. I would not trade, that' for sure. All my things have disappeared into the fog of distant memories, while you must cope with it daily.:( Hang in there!:)

Was that way before the doctor put me on Celebrex. C5-C6 spinal injury a while back. There is nothing like having pain for years at a time then have it stop to change your life.

I do need to try that. But believe it or not, I have a bad heart too. Leaky valve. Anyways, I was on that Vioxx and it actually made me feel the best I've felt in over 7 years, for a couple of years then they pulled it cause of health (heart) concerns. So, I'm a little gun shy now. I'd rather live with lots of pain then be laying in a pine box. Thanks, I'm going to ask my Dr. about that Celebrex on my next visit. I've just about given up on meds.

That stuff is great. I can't believe how fast it worked. I surprised that it's not illegal!;)

Just got over pancreatitis, 2 nites in the hospital. Got morphine the first nite and had dreams that were so damn wonderful. I was in a place that was unfamiliar yet comforting. My dead relatives paid a visit and I spoke to a friend that i had been angry with. Also during the dream i was driving my car on the most beautifully brilliant sunny day, yet the sun was not blinding. After driving a while i realized i was wearing the best sunglasses ever. Strange dreams indeed.

WCC sorry to hear of your state and i sincerely hope you can find some relief. Celebrex worked for two of my family members, where many others had failed.

I have taken them all, Vioxx, Celebrex, Bextra and so on. Before this was on another anti-imflammation med and it made things better but did not cure the pain.

Woke up in pain and went to bed in pain. Painkillers would take care of it for a while but who wants to live like that so just put up with it for a while.

Try the 100 mg celebrex and see what it does for you. I take the 200 mg at night and its good for 24 hours. If I forget or do not have access to my meds can go a day with out it but by the second day I am stiff and by that night need a couple of asprin or the like to move my neck. It aint fun and celebrex made life a lot better.

My tough-guy story is that I had a kidney stone in '89 and drove myself to the hospital. It was only about a 10 minute drive, (Beverly Glen canyon to UCLA ER for LA people), but fukenay did that hurt. Should have called an ambulance, but I thought that my apendix had burst and I was in a HURRY to get to the ER. I had a Suzuki Samarai and I drove it stiff as a board down the hill, I could not bend my waist or legs one bit. (Like driving standing up).

When I got there I went into shock from the pain, my knees were knocking together so hard that I thought I was going to break my knee caps. They gave me a shot of morphine, then another, then another, finally the stone shifted a little and the pain reduced. Plus now the dope was kicking in, what a relief. Like someone pulled the salt-covered butcher knife out of my gut.

Yeah, that schit hurts. Once it makes it to your bladder you are home free, though. The tube between your bladder and penis is a lot larger than the kidney-to-bladder tube. (One is urethra and other is ureter)? Once you pass it to the bladder, the pain is gone and in my case they had me urinate through a little screen deal to catch the stone when it passes, the thing was like a little burr, not smooth at all. YOUCH.

And god forbid you are in the mountains of North Carolina and they run out of Captain Morgans AND good beer...

Well known fact. The person with the combination of the worst possible pain and unable to sit still - is very often stone related pain. Gall bladder or kidney. Often an easy diagnose. A grown man crying and shouting = stone.

Of course we don´t see it much in the pediatric clientele.

As a chronic kidney stoner, I can commiserate.

For relief at home, lay on a heating pad or lay in the tub with hot water. Oxycodone is helpful but best if used with an anti-spasm drug to calm the kidney. I always have both near. In the hospital, DEMAND a Demerol IV.

As an aside, big humidity/temperature swings seem to trigger stone ‘attacks’. Just my observation. And my brother swears that coconut milk helps them pass - he has them too.

I have had Lithotripsy twice for kidney stones. This is the ultrasonic bombardment of kidney stones. Basically a machine kidney punches you for half an hour & breaks them into powder that you can pass. Demerol is required. On my last treatment, the rubble blocked the kidney exit & I ended up back in the hospital for 5 Demerol delirium days. Then they inserted a stent to open the passage – non-surgically I might add. I had it in for a week with a string hanging out for removal. That was fun.

Only think worse that I have experienced is a prostate biopsy but that's another story.

I had one in '97 and admitted myself into the ER, $7K later they told me I had a stone and to go home and pass it. :mad:

In '99 I got another and after passing it myself without a visit to the ER I went to a Urologist (He used to own a GT2 and sold it to the owner of Tire Rack and bought a 360 Mondial, I liked this guy) and he ran tests on my stone, no conclusive evidence of anything wrong with my diet or me.

I was told I was dehydrating myself too much, I worked outside a lot back then when my Surveying company was young.

How to minimize the pain? Drink lots of water tons of it. Like over a gallon a day, and set your alarm to get up in the middle of the night and drink lots then too, bever let your bladder run dry.

The first stone I passed was painless the second almost put me on the floor passed out.

I suggest you pee while sitting down from here on out. They shoulf have given you a screen to pee in anyway yo catch the stone.

I have a woman friend who has been through the stone thing too and she would prefer to give birth again over it any day.

BTW- Pain killers really do not do anything, they take the edge off a little but, honestly the best thing is to keep you bladder full, the pain you feel is the stone hitting a wall when you bladder is relatively empty.
