Need help negotiating for a Subaru Legacy
Hi Guys,
I'm looking at buying a 2006 Legacy 2.5i Wagon. Any feedback on the vehicle is also welcome. The Subaru Dealer bought it from the Subaru corporate fleet. It only has 6,000 miles on it. All of the figures here are in Canadian dollars, but it shouldn't really matter. I'm not very good at car negotiating, so I'd love some help. The 2006 MSRP for the wagon was about $30,500. Their starting offer is $25,500. So I'm saving about $6,800 when you factor in the Freight and PDI that is on top. So how low should I offer? According to Kelley Blue Book, here are the various CDN equivalent values: Trade in -$20,000 Private Party - $22,800 Dealer Sale - $25,300 I am trading in a 1997 Mazda Protege worth about $3,000 As a note, they just got the car yesterday, so there is likely some value in the fact that they don't have to keep it in inventory. Also, they said that there was a scratch on the fender that had to be touched up. I'm thinking of offering $22,500 and settling for no more than $24,000. Thanks in advance |
are you getting full dealer warranty , x years from the moment you buy it? maintenance scheme included of some sorts? any of the usual "bought new car from dealer" perks?

warranty
yes, I get full factory remaining warranty
|
No, don't settle for remaining warranty. On a deal like this, they should extend the warranty out as if it was a zero mile car. So if it's 3 years, 36k miles (as in the US), it would be for 3 years from today, or 42k miles.

My Tahoe was the dealer demo vehicle. Came with every option available plus some. It had 4k on the odometer. I purchased as new with full warranty/not balance.
Don't mention Kelly Blue Book price to the sales people. Turns them off and they don't negotiate as well. Better to have them understand that you have a budget/limit and that's that. Do not be afraid to walk on the deal to make a point. Shop a bit more and see if you can get a comparable deal on a similarly valued vehicle and let them know you have options. Be upfront, don't be vague. |
