Rover disco project pics
well, the Rover is now 99% complete. I need to re-install the roof rack and add a few accessories, but for the most part it is done.
I have taken it from this: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1167233747.jpg to this: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1167233801.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1167233832.jpg New rotors and pads all the way around, all new hoses, coolant flush, plugs, wires, oil/filter, t-stat, belts, diff fluid, battery, new ARB winch bumper, paint for the fender and hood, new grill, and a new driver corner lamp-and a new exhaust--total investment including purchase price of the rover--2,800.00 Can't wait to get it on the road. |
Cool! I had a '96 Discovery SD, in silver with gray cloth interior. I really should have kept it, but the lure of its big brother the Range Rover proved too much! Mine was a stick- which I prefer- it was a great rig, felt really solid on the road, looked great- but it drove me nuts with the little stuff- steering column plastic bits that came apart when you turned the ignition key (when it would turn) and squeaks/rattles all over. I think D1's are a great deal though- I frequently see sub-100k models selling for under $8k that are in great shape. Enjoy!

Sorry, but I have to ask the question: why bother?
I had a Disco - and it was the worst POS I ever owned. Spent more time at the dealer than in my garage. There was a time you absolutely couldn't sell these cars because of their bad reputation. So I'm curious: why restore it? |
Believe it or not the Disco makes a great trail rig. $2800 and look what he has. I still have a hankering for an early 90's SWB Classic. We're on our 3rd Disco (97, 99, and 03) and despite the few issues they are very cool trucks.

....and the market for finely restored Pinto's is virtually untapped.

Wrenching is a hobby of mine, and I know how capable the discos are for wheeling, so I bought it. I did all of the preventive maintainence which I listed, did the body work on the fender and hood myself--had a buddy of mine spray the paint, and now I have a great DD and off-roader to replace my 79 wagoneer for under 3,000. A couple more pics: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1167240209.jpg during the work phase: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1167240351.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1167240383.jpg |

Congrats!
I have a '99 Disco II, bought it new. Currently has a little over 70K on it. Have had no more problems than most other new cars I have bought and actually less than some of them. Great off road and not all that bad on road. |
$2,800? Wow.
Cool truck and good job. - Skip |
Thats killer dude, awesome rig. Im going to start digging into my D2 here next month with a 2" lift an A/Ts, love these damned English vehicles.
Hey, what bumper is that on there? Doesn't look TJM. I hate that these vendors are able to charge $900+ for a bumper, its outrageous. |
Eric I sent you a pm on that Wagoneer
|
You do good work!!!
|
Sorry it has taken so long to get back, but I just returned from Atlanta.
Pookie--sent you an e-mail regarding the wag. Mat--the bumper is an ARB warn winch mount--and is probably the most expensive single item which I purchased for the project. everyone-- thanks for the compliments! :) |
Nice work, Eric. I don't know much about the car, but from the pictures, it appears to be extremely tall and narrow tracked. No danger on having this thing tip on the side of a hill? Just curious. Wherebouts in Pgh are you?
|
Eric,
What a great job...for what you paid, I've have jumped on it. I had a 94 D90 that I regret selling but I'd give your ride a go! |
