San Francisco in Feb....worth renting a sport bike?
I'm going to be in SF for a week in February. I'll be working during the week, but staying the weekend.
Is the weather usually good for renting a sport bike and riding? If so, what are some good destinations (roads to the destination)? And reasonably priced hotels along the way for Friday and Saturday night? Anyone rent from these guys before? i think it will be raining big that month.
if it isnt and you do rent a bike, i can ride with you. if it is, we can get together with a bunch of p-heads and just hang with beer or coffee. no idea on the hotels or destinations, but most non locals head to napa.

If Napa isn't good for you, try Hunter's Point/Bayview. Isn't that where you live, Vash?

I was afraid someone would say "rain." I would love to blast up the coast or down to LA. I drove the approximate route over 10 yrs ago, and I have been itching to do it again on two wheels....or in a 911.
I'll be on a guided tour to Napa/Sonoma Valley during one of the days, so I'll be looking for none touristy things to do. If the weather is ridable, I'd love to put some miles on a bike with you, Cliff, else beers are cool ![]() Things are kinda preliminary as to the weekend right now, so I'm fishing for ideas to plan the weekend. |

Chilly and wet that time of year. Would look for plan B.
Plan B is to bring your fiance and get married. Time is running out...

![]() Plan B?: I have relatives in LA, so I may rent a car and drive down that way on Sat afternoon then fly home Sunday. |

Remember guys, I'm from the Midwest where I've ridden in December when it's 40 degrees and sunny....not that I'd want to do it (in 40 deg temp) when I'm out in California, but a sunny 60 degree day in SF will be like heaven for me in Feb.

Joe, She's very opposed to Vegas...so am I. It would be hella cheap, and I'd have money for another 911 if that was in the future

You've got an excellent chance of decent weather. Corte Madera is in Marin County, an excellent place to launch a ride. Up Hwy 1 is probably the best roads and scenery, if it's not cold/wet/foggy/cloudy. If it is, oftentimes going inland will solve the problem. Great roads around Lake Berryessa and Calistoga, which would be a great place to stay. Some pics from a ride I took there last November:

Dang Steve! Those pictures are great. That's what I'm talking 'bout!
Thanks for the tips.Joe...no quickie for us. She won't have it, and my family would dis-own me. Never try to take on pissed off Asian women (my 7 sisters and mother!) |

What Steve sez - Hwy 1 north....All the way to Leggett. I do it every year. Rated one of the top 5 m/c roads in the WORLD. If you ride Hwy 1 south, it takes 1/2 day to get past Carmel where the road gets good.
Other options - Hwy 35, (Skyline drive) between SF and San Jose...
