Anyone see "World Trade Center"? Just caught it tonight on ppv...
it was very well done and a great tribute to the rescue workers on 911.

Particularly intriguing is the heroic story and contribution of Staff Sargent Dave Karnes,
who was a retired Marine working as an accountant in Conn.
He put his uniform on, drove to the scene on his own will and
ended up playing a most important role in saving 2 lives.

So what did Sgt. Karnes drive to get him to the WTC so quickly:

"Finally, Karnes lowered the convertible top on his Porsche. This would make it easier for the authorities to look in and see a Marine, he reasoned. If they could see who he was, he'd be able to zip past checkpoints and more easily gain access to the site. For Karnes, it was a "God thing" that he was in the Porsche—a Porsche 911—that day. He'd only purchased it a month earlier—it had been a stretch, financially. But he decided to buy it after his pastor suggested that he "pray on it." He had no choice but to take it that day because his Mercury was in the shop. Driving the Porsche at speeds of up to 120 miles per hour, he reached Manhattan—after stopping at McDonald's for a hamburger—in the late afternoon."

Very interesting story. That was a traumatic day for many around the world and certainly those who lived near the devastation and had friends and family members that perished.

When the NYT started printing tributes to those that died that day I started reading them, every word. I found that it was difficult to do anything else each day until I had read all the profiles. I have no explanation for this compulsion other than it was my way of paying a very insignificant tribute to all those lost that day. When the tributes were completed, I found myself going back and reading some that were most memorable.

I still go back and search them out periodically, can't explain why. Since I was actually headed to LGA (from my home in CT) that day for an 11AM flight to Toronto and my son was flying charter helicopter flights into NY city that day, it all hits very close to home. I'm sure there are a million++ memories such as mine.

I pray we never experience another day that rivals Sept 11, 2001.
