910 25k BS!!

As soon as I read this article (1 hour ago) I had to run to the BB to see if this was true? Now I love Excellence and have been getting the mag since I was in college back in 93.

Umm, it was the April issue (hint, hint). :p

I honestly think they've missed the mark here, "dealers are stocking up on 910s because people are trading them in for cayennes". My favorite is the remark about taking a flat 6 over a flat 8!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How much would a flat 8 be worth? at least $50k to $70k. My point is does anyone think your going to touch a road worthy 910 for less than six figures let alone 50k? Cant wait till next months 907 article.

I only quoted this to preserve it for posterity. Once you realize you have been had by an April Fool's prank (and a damn funny one at that) you will probably want to go back and edit your post so you don't look like an idiot. :p

Excellence readers frequently want to use this magazine a source for insurance values so what does this so to is creditability now?
I think most people don't take the April issues all that seriously. Excellence is not the only mag that pulls pranks.

I agree. (edit) Not because of this silly article, but I did cancel my subscription to EXCELLENCE.

Of course it's an April Fool's prank. All the plastic Porsches trade for at least a half-million these days. And, no, insurance values and the magazine's credibility will not be affected.

lighten up!

nostatic 02-17-2007 06:01 PM

yes, we've gotten meaner over the years (april 2006 join date). Not sure what that says about Porsche owners, but I does give some clarity on Ferrari owners.

My advice would be to start drinking heavily...

Erik Mckenna 02-17-2007 06:23 PM

***** at Cornpanzer.. he wrote the bloody article :)

jeffgrant 02-17-2007 06:30 PM

Dude... you over-reacted to an article that almost everybody else saw for what it was... a friendly, well-intentioned joke.

Don't take it, or us, personally.... as it's NOT personal.

...but you may just want to cultivate your sense of humour a bit.

Where is that 'Welcome to last week' pic when I need it?

April Fools?

CurtEgerer 02-18-2007 06:53 AM

Without even reading the article, didn't the title pretty much give it away as a spoof?

"HOW TO BUY A 910 - With so many of these fine Porsches flooding the used-car market, we tell you how to avoid buying a bad one."

Can't wait to see the 'Letters to the Editor' in next month's issue from those who didn't quite get it .... :D

I thought this was one of the best Excellence issues in quite some time for early car enthusiasts. Besides the 910 article, there was Don Ahearn's awesome 'Jennings 911S', Bill Noon's 911R, Don Ramsey's 964-based RSR, and a 356 Outlaw!! I let my subscription expire a year or 2 ago after one too many 996/Boxster/CGT tuner articles but recently signed back up. Hopefully, they'll continue the emphasis on the classics.

I should of done that on an April Fool's joke I did last year, I released a new car for Racer on April 1st - I'd spent the time, it was real, worked, drove, everything, just on the download title on my website I had "April Fools", and the short description below "Haha, made you look". Those who actually clicked on the link got the car, others posted responses I wish I still had, but edited them later...

speeder 02-18-2007 08:10 AM

Yes, you really are a dump ass. :)

(How the hell do you hit the "p" instead of the "b" on a keyboard? They're a mile apart).

Whatever. That article is in the vaunted tradition of great car magazine tomfoolery as practiced by Henry Manley III, Brock Yates and others in the golden days of auto journalism at R&T and Car and Driver. They constantly spoofed; road testing tanks and garbage trucks, pulling pranks, etc..

Let's face it: there is only so much that one can seriously write about cars w/o boring the balls off a brass monkey. Apparently you are not a brass monkey. How anyone could actually be fooled by that article, much less offended by it, is mind-boggling. You are an enthusiast, yet you seriously believed an article that says that used-car lots are being flooded w/ vintage Porsche race cars?? Fuchenay.

Let me guess; you voted for W, right? Twice? SmileWavy
