JPM wins his 1st NASCAR race....

and I ognored it!! Darn!

I was sitting in a Steakhouse with the family near the bar. I could see there was a NASCAR race on the TV and a safety car was out, hmmmm, must be close to the end. LOL!! I was right, I looked up again and the race was over and whoever won, I could not see well was going nuts, then I saw the cameras focusing on the Columbian Flags in the stands...

I excused myself and ran to the bar to see for sure. Yup JPM won his 1st NASCAR race!

It seems they were in Mexico and it was a road course layout? Not sure maybe I'll check speed for highlights.

Yea, unfortunately he punted his teammate (Scott Pruett) to make the final pass with a handful of laps remaining. With more patience, he could have made that final pass as cleanly as he made the dozen previous passes. A brilliant drive, tarnished with spinning his teammate.

He had a refueling problem and fell from 1st to 19th. A couple yellow flags and about 15 laps and he was back in first. Unfortunately he took out his teammate (who seemed a bit sore for someone who had already been passed by Juan once and surely would have been passed again even without the spin.) Granted it was the lower series, but he was the class of the field passing several cars in the 160mph sweeper.

Oops!! Like I said I was across the room in a Steak House, I do not follow NASCAR to be able to spot the difference.

If he was in a Bush car then I agrree with Joe's eloquent response.

The series is spelled "Busch," like the beer. Great race, BTW. Braking those 3,000+ behemoths from 180 mph to 50 mph for a hairpin right is not ordinary NASCAR racing. Mexico City puts on a very impressive race.

This particular event had some exception talent, hustle some relatively overweight cars with limited tires around a very challenging race track.
The cream rose to the top with only minor driving infractions.
It was a good race to watch and I for one always enjoy driving at it's best.
These guys have nothing to prove to wanckers who choose to down play their talents.
The funny thing about American racing fans is that edit{they all} some think it's easy. edit{They all} some think they could do it if they only had a car.
If you fit into this category, I can only say, get a car, strap in and give it a try. Then we could all say BFD about your driving and get a great laugh to boot.

Add just one sharp < 50mph turn at the end of the main straight on every NASCAR track and I would be a fan...even with all the other BS.

Hey, even if "only" a Busch race, the guy can drive. Good going to win so early in NASCAR....

I do not agree. JPM is a world class driver who won Cart or and Indy season Championship. I understand he is learning while racing in the "farm league" but it seems more like he is beating up the kids to me. Sort of like a Pro Ball player moving down to AAA and whooping up on the AAA guys, its not nearly as big as a Pro win.

I swore I saw him in a NASCAR seat is he driving both series?

I am sorry I ever started this thread, I really know NOTHING about NASCAR I have not followed it in a really long time. Bill Elliot days if you want to know and I had a client who had 2 cars in this new "Bush" series one had a worked V6 the other a detuned V8 trying to see which would be the better car in the long run. I wonder if he still runs too.

LaWare Racing ring a bell with any of you guys that follow close?

An hispanic winning a nascar race in mexico. I see no agenda there. HELLO! They are taking their clues from pro wrestling. Grasping for straws as the attendance declines. I don't blame them. It is business and all about money for them.

I sure do enjoy the elitism constantly displayed here by those that put down certain forms of racing. In fact, I'm getting a big kick out of all the elitism lately. But, it's all good. You can prove how cool you are anytime you want.

What I don't get is that someone can knock stock car racing and then watch football or basketball. I don't knock football, but it bores me to death. I could watch a roundy round any day over a basketball game, but I know how important it is to have these terrific roll models play their game.

I kinda like the lyric from a 25 year old song, "I was country before country was cool."

I still think the Cup drivers are going to hand JPM his lunch.

I have to agree with Milt on every point. JPM will show flashes of brilliance but it will take awhile for him to be consistent.

Dennis
WWF, declining attendance? Step away from your bong.
What are you smoking? If you're suggesting it's rigged, you're high.

Attendance is at record highs. There are a large number of venues vying for fan dollars but Nascar is alive and well.

Just an added thought:
When Jack Roush and his left turn only guys completed heads up against the worlds best sports car drivers back in the 90s at the 24 hrs of Daytona, Jack and the heehaw guys won 10 straight.
Mustangs vs Porsches and it wasn't even close.

Roush earned 10 consecutive 24 Hours of Daytona sedan class championships. Some of the drivers who competed for Roush are Kendall, Dallenbach, Pruett, Mark Martin, Bill Elliott, Ricky Rudd, Kyle Petty, Ken Schrader, Robby Gordon, Pete Halsmer, Lyn St. James, as well as actor Paul Newman and Olympian Bruce Jenner.

Yeah, WWF is definately not rigged. I heard it's being considered to be an Olympic event in 2012.
