Anyone from Spain??
 

I have just received a potential offer to move to Spain. I haven't talked to my wife yet, but first I want to check the important stuff...How troublesome can be to bring my baby there? :D :D
My car is a 1976 S...at least on papers (I have a 3.6 engine and a Turbo S body kit on it), so I wonder if it would apply for a special classic car import regulation. If there is any!!

Is anyone from Spain here in this forums who can enlight me about the life of a P owner in Spain...and how to deal with the imports stuff?

I don't live in Spain, have been there. Do not miss on the opportunity !!!!! I wish it was me going there/.. positive things , you and your children could become bi lingual, what an asset!!!!!!! Learn how others live , see Europe , every w/e another country. almost. I am envious !!!!!! Do it , or you will regret it all your life !!!

Thanks a lot for you post. I couldn't agree more with you. I have been very lucky and this is not my first International move. I am originally from Argentina. I lived 4 years in the US, 2 in Switzerland and now I am living in Guatemala....so I do know what you are talking about. My oldest daughter is 11 years old and speaks Spanish, English and some French!!!....

I really look forward for Spain....but only if I can take my P car with me :-)

My whole family is from Galicia, but I was born here. I spent every summer since age 5 with my grandparents in Pontevedra at the ocean. I am fluent in Spanish, English, and learned some Portuguese given that the border is 20 minutes away. Some of my fondest childhood memories are of those summers. Great people, weather, food.

I intend to do the same for my 3 young boys.

Yes, I am form Spain and live in Madrid. Very nice country, good weather, friendly people, growing economy... we have our issues too but overall a good choice.

The Porsche scene is not as active as in the US. The official Porsche club is a bit "snobbish" and tend to favor latest models and high cost cars. However there are other options (informal meetings, day trips, regularity rallyes (I'm quite involved in those).

Regarding importing cars, all cars 25 years or older are eligible for historicl plates. This involves reduced inspections (although the process is somewhat complicated) but you should not have problems getting your car registered.

Paco, unfortunatelly the situation that you mention with the P Club in Spain is what I have seen in other countries also, except the US!! I will definetely get in touch with you when I arrive there, so I can get involved in the activities that you mentioned. Is there any track near Madrid where you can take the car to have fun?

The Jarama race track is less than 30 km from the city center. It used to be a world class track (hosting F1 and MotoGP events) but now it is at best second class (however there are Le Mans Series races and European Truck racing events). For a small fee you can lap the track at "open doors" days. You can check it out at www.jarama.org
