"The Wall"

The Wall

(to Demonstrators)

"How much more do you want of us? We wait here in dismay as you plan to disrupt our serenity, your placards screaming of ‘Peace’. Don’t you know there is no war here – only blessed release from the pain and agony of our journey to this hallowed place? Don’t sully it with your anger – do not demean it with your slogans. Here, there is commiseration, not turmoil, solace, not confrontation. Take your anger to those who caused it.

There is no place for it here. We have endured enough. Leave us to commune in harmony with our comrades on both sides of our Wall – those who have passed through, and those who wait to complete the journey. Please do not misunderstand; we may have arrived here as the result of war and violence, but we have transformed this Wall into a place of eternal love. Let our repose remain inviolate for as long as this nation endures. Grant us the peace you demand."

Very good. This should be a place of peace, not demonstrations.

What always struck me every time I visit is how quiet and solemn everyone is as they walk past the wall.

The first time I went there, I was taken over by a feeling of quiet. As I walked up the other side I realized just how isolated you become from the world just outside. As you climb up the walkway you slowly start to hear the sounds of the city around you. This is a spooky place..........nicely done. IMO

A guy I work with has that print framed in his office. It makes me sob every time I look at it.

I have it on the wall behind my desk at home too. I'm proud to say, it has the same affect on me too. :(

I have a family member's name on that wall

I am opposed to the current administration and the war. However it takes an incredibly disgusting maggot of a person to demonstrate at the memorial of all places. If I was there and I saw that, those people would be missing teeth and have broken bones.

Bravo, Randy.

I'm not old enough to have friends or loved ones on that wall. The people that do, the generation that sacrificed of themselves, their friends, and loved ones so my generation would not have to, deserve all the love and respect we can muster. They truly have given all; selflessly and without hesitation. Thank you for that. Thank you very, very much.
