Pic's of the local car show.
Hey -
Here are a few pic's from this mornings Second Annual downtown development council car show, a great day for all and it's FREE. Wide variety of cars/trucks and govt vehicles on display and doing demo's, only two pieces of German Iron though both VW's ... We need a Porsch deputation to bring some car's next year. That looks like a really nice area to live. Thanks for the pics!

This part of the country is great, the cost of living here is one of the lowest in the nation, real estate prices are low and it is a buyers market,
Our town has all the major stores , 18 K people and really good schools with lots of sports activity for the kid's, Crime rate is low, gang's are non-existant. If you crave the " big " city you are 1 hour from Savannah or 1/2 hour from Jacksonville FL, both of which has International Airports. We are on the Coast so there is some great salt water fishing as well as fresh water in the river's and marsh, also good hog, deer and turkey hunting. Weather is mild, we have about three chilly months where it get's down in the mid 30's to mid 40's, most of the time it is around 70 - 80 except for a couple of summer months when it is slightly higher. Bottom line, the people are still friendly here...lol Todd SmileWavy |
Todd how's the duckin'? Are gators an issue?
|
Hey BF
There are some around , you just have to keep an eye out for them when you are in the water or your dog is doing a retrieve, lots of duck hunting here due to all the marsh land ajoining the rivers, small boats with blinds along the shore line or on the small hammocks work the best and using a good lab to retrieve. I am not much of a Duck hunter as I am not particularly fond of eating them, I do like to pig hunt and most people will gladly let you shoot them off their property. Todd |
How do the wild hogs compare to the pork i'd buy at a store?
|
Best ribs I ever had were wild pig. Big old boar can be a bit gamey, but makes swell sausage. A wild boar can do some serious damage to your property, and will kill your dog faster than you can blink your eye.
People seem to be nicer in the South, except for the southern part of California, out here they seem to be nicer in the North. |
Well thats a hard one to answer , I take mine to a local slaugter house here that does a good job on seasoning the ground meat and makes really good sausage in several styles, I also have them smoke the hams and ribs at the same time, it is very inexpensive, I try and shoot the smaller 1-2 year old's which I think yields a better meat, the really big guy's tend to be kinda tough on the teeth...lol
Plus it is pretty good hunting, their eye sight is not that good but they can detect motion and their sense of smell is really good if you get upwind of them they will take off running, their hearing is not that bad either. Todd Me, my neighbor and his grandkid holding my rifle, kid did not hunt just went along to watch (their first pig hunt..lol) http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1174253515.jpg my neighbor and his first pig http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1174253607.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1174253621.jpg Picture quality was bad taken with a disposable no flash camera. |
Exactly right on the damage they do to pasture land and talk about the cattle feed they scarf down, that is why the folks here are glad to have you shoot and haul them off,,,
A bunch of hog's hit a pasture it looks like you went crazy with a plow or a disk set to really turn the soil, The other stupid "digger" we got are Armodilla's , thanks to all you Texas guys for letting them leave Todd SmileWavy |
Great pics Todd,
I always never cease to be amazed at the standard of cars at these "local shows". We went to one in our town yesterday - look for pics in a new thread "Local Street Rod Show" or something similar. Check it out - there's some great machinery :) . Like you, we live in a lovely little town (only 12000 pop though) where everyone is friendly. There's a lot of car talent (builders, fabricators etc) where we live; but no real enthusiasm for European cars. One of the guys we met yesterday could have kissed me when he knew we owned Porsches as he has a JPS 3 series BMW and no-one to go for a crisp run with in that car - the local car boyz all screw their noses up at him and don't get the Bimmer thing at all! |
Very nice!

Great pics Todd, and thanks! I lifted the 3 deuces atop the 389 for my files. Never took a photo of the engine when I drove one.
Beautiful Main street...good to see that bit of fading fast americana as well... |
