Costa Rica - Travel Tips?

My sons school trip this year is to Costa Rica with a school tour company. They have studied about the country all year long, doing projects and other activities to learn as much as possible about the country and now they get to go see it.

Everything is included in the trip, transportation, food etc.. They are on thier own for small things, souveniers etc..

I am staying behind with the 3 y/o, he is in Montessori from 9-12 M-F so I am changing my work schedule to play Mr. Mom. But, mommy wants to keep in touch.

2 questions come to mind.

1. Cell phone service - Will our Cingular work there or do we need to just pick up a phone once there?

2. Can she purchase a calling card here in the USA and take it there?



Any other tips/suggestions are more than welcome.
