Just scored 6 sweet Hendrix Discs
Anyone ever heard of "The Authentic PPX Studio Recordings Vols 1-6"? Its Hendrix playing in a band prior to having his own gig. He's playing with a dude named Curtis Knight. Has a very heavy blues feel to it, and they play a bunch of songs you all know from the era (lots of James Brown, etc). He's on guitar, and does a very limited amount of backup vocals.
VERY intertesting to hear him come through here and there on the guitar. Nothin like getting a few hours of good tunes to get me through underwriting for 8 hours straight! |

Neat stuff. I'm on a Hendrix kick right now too, have Hendrix Blues in my car on the way to/from work.

A little known fact about Hendrix is that he toured with Pink Floyd (as separate acts) in England. Apparently Syd Barrett and Jimi didn't get along all that well.

Didn't Hendrix tour with Little Richard too?

I do recall that Barrett got pissed at Hendrix (while high on LSD) and took some Quaalude's and put them in his hair--saying it would make him look like Jimi or some nonsense. This was later recounted in "Nobody Home" with the line "the obligatory Hendrix perm"...

Speaking of Syd, I'm about to embark on a "Syd Barret solo record listening" binge. I've never heard his solo stuff. I know it won't compare to PF but I'm interested.. I've got "Opel", "Barrett", and "The Madcap Laughs" in front of me, ready for a listen. Any good? Sorry for the hijack.

Great score on Jimi's old stuff, too. I like following the stars back through their careers before the "were somebody". You can often find their "truest" (is that a word?) work; before some record label or promoter started trying to sell them.

Arnold Lane....See Emily Play...
Back to Hendrix. Hey Joe and All Along the Watchtower are my favorites. From what I understand, for a guitar player, Hey Joe is a difficult song to sing and play.

The worst part about Hendrix music is picking up your guitar to play it. You can't get it right. At least I haven't heard anyone do it.
Honestly, if heaven is a place where you can meet anyone who died ever, Hendrix is on my list. I wouldn't want to ask him questions or really talk much, I'd want to go to his heaven house and just sit on the porch and listen to him tool around on the axe. |
