Disturbia = Rear Window?

I recently saw previews for the movie DISTURBIA, in which a young man is under house arrest, begins watching his neighbors due to boredom and curiousity, and sees what he believes to be a murder next door.

Sound familiar to anyone?

Does anyone know if this is a update/remake of the Hitch classic REAR WINDOW, or just a blatant rip-off?

Seldom does Hlooywood have an original idea anymore. Hell, they even made a movie based on a ride at Disneyland!!!

Yep, everything is derivative nowadays. Nothing new under the sun...

I've read somewhere that there are only 11 basic stories or plot lines (fill in your own number). I think its true.

Disturbia is most definitely rear Window. Rear Window is an all time Hitchcock classic but I think many of the specifics of its plot wouldn't work today so Distubia has to be an "update"....which of course will probably be its downfall. Hitchcock wouldn't have had blood splashed on the window for example and I'm guessing there is much more explicit violence than he would ever have used. Its gone from a "suspense" movie to a quasi-slasher?
