I guess keeping it "all-VW" would be nice, simply because I could go to an all VW mechanic.

When the time comes, I will look into those options too. Won't be for 1+ year, though.

Slight change of subject, how do you think Fuchs would look on a Vanagon? I found a vendor of Fuchs copies with the Vanagon-correct bolt pattern. A bit more expensive than most other Vanagon wheel options, but cheaper than real Fuchs. These wheels are 15" x 5.5", a little narrower than I'd like, but would still fit a 195 tire which is wider than my current 185s.

Edit: they are meant for buses, not sure about the backspacing and centers for Vanagons.

Also have black painted with polished rims and petals, which would match my 911's Fuchs.

In fact, with a custom adapter for the Prius, the whole fleet could ride on Fuchs-look.

I caught this cool Syncro Crewcab transporter go by a couple mornings ago on Kauai (Kapa'a). Note the Porsche sticker.

That is a rare bird.

A friend of the family used to have one of those, baby $chit brown. He beat on it mercilessly, and I was always impressed by how well it held up.

Yep, and the parts for a TDI will be much easier to find than those for a wasserboxer. Lots more engines available now than a few years ago, and the TDIs have LOTS of room for tuning. 200ft/lbs is not a stretch for these engines, even for a daily driver.
