Killing convicts. What´s the deal in Texas?

Read an article on execution in US. Claims the common injection procedure is potentially inhumane. That it at times does not work as expected.

In the article it seems that Texas is the doing something like 70-90% of the executions in US.

How come?

Because Texans know how to punish criminals, FL. is not far behind. I only wish other states would follow the Texas lead and also bring back public hanging

Because they are one of the only states left that has not been over-run with hand-wringing ninnies.

String them up in the town square. I think it's inhumane to hide punishment from the public.

Tejas (the real spelling) has always been a bit stronger on things like this (do some research on the Texas Rangers) and it continues to this day.

My Mother was born in Tejas and she could tell some very difficult stories of her childhood. Public hangings and such were still common in the rural areas years ago. Its not a state to break the law in and try to get away with it...

BTW, I could care less if the injection hurts or takes a second time. Turn the killers loose in a room with the victims family for 5 minutes then kill them. That would stop a lot of crimes IMHO.

Fascinating how one region has come to stand out that much. I assume the explanation is partly historical (as mentioned above). But is there factors historically that makes Texas - Tejas (Mexican right?) different ? Immigration roots ?

Furthermore, I guess it is a self propagating cycle. People tend to move to areas that, among other factors, have a political and traditional view that they approve of.

Our states are supposed to be sovereign entities. only bound by the U.S. Constitution. The Constitution is a pretty small document.

The 10th amendment states that all powers not specifically granted to the federal government in the constitution are reserved for the states.

It is fitting and proper that some states execute criminals at a high rate and other states have declared capital punishment illegal.

Texas is, I believe, the only state that was once it's own, independent country/republic.

Texas declared its independence from Mexico in the early/mid 1800s, and was the independent "Republic of Texas" for 10 years or so before joining the United States.

IMO, it has retained a lot of that spirit of independence.

Because Texas isn't afraid to stand up for the rights of it's citizens, to defend the law, to keep the peace. I would expect if you looked at the stats, Texas has a lower percentage of violent crime, compaired to some of the other "Puffy" states.
