Is it worth the lives?

In the last five years, more than 3,500 bicyclists were killed on US roads. An additional 300,000 were injured and/or maimed. And for what?

Is it time to stop the senseless loss of life and limb?

turbo6bar 04-25-2007 06:13 AM

I don't think we should ban cars from the roadways. That's too much.

I'm guessing it was for the purpose of attempting to deflect/minimize the human cost of our fiasco in Iraq. Did I win :)?

Yes he is belittling the sacrifices our armed forces have made, a real treat this one is.

speeder 04-25-2007 06:30 AM

You would have to make it an unknown number of lives lost, but easily 100k+, with a magnitude larger # horribly maimed and 2 countries destroyed for the foreseeable future + a trillion $$ down a schithole in 4 years all because of bicycling. Plus our credibility and standing in the world severely damaged. Also, bicycling would have to serve no useful purpose, and in fact was invented on false premises.

Other than that, you had a perfect neocon analogy going there.

Perhaps we should fly the flag at half staff in their memory.

How so, please explain. Are the cyclists lives less valuable to you?

When they signed the purchase contract for the bike they knew what they were buying and getting into, they should of read the fine print....................show no mercy.

Yea, like it's the same.

Avoiding the question? Why are the lives of the cyclists so meaningless to you in comparison? Your lack of empathy is troubling.

speeder 04-25-2007 06:40 AM

All lives lost are not equivilent. A young soldier's life is worth more than an old, fat Republican draft-dodger's life who is peddling around in spandex somewhere. David Halberstams's life was worth more than Anna Nicole Smith's.

If all of the chief neocon architects of the Iraq invasion had somehow miraculously died in a speeding Suburban crash or skied into trees, Bush would have been left holding his dick and not knowing whether to flip, fukc or fly. No drummed-up intelligence, no phony reasons for war, etc... And I would believe that God was not sleeping on the job lately.

Interesting:)

I think the heirarchy is:
cyclist
Soldier
all other human beings
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
Iraqi civilian

So the concensus so far is that the casual entertainment of cycling is worth the 3,500 lives and half a million injuries.

86 percent of women cyclists killed in London were killed by trucks at traffic lights as the trucks moved away - the women were in their blind spot.

nostatic 04-25-2007 07:50 AM

and overeating and obesity kills millions of Americans every year. Maybe we should forcibly limit the amount of calories every American can eat.

Is it worth the lives?

Nostril Cheese 04-25-2007 08:15 AM

This is a pretty stupid comparison.
