Alpine 500 pics

Road Rally I did last weekend with my brother, pictured. The white TR3 wiped out his oil cooler last year on a frost heave along the way.

Only other 914 that came this year. Sort of bent on passenger front fender, carbs, burned oil but plenty fast, nice tires

Gotta love Norm's Apina race car, kinda spartan with no side glass and minimal interior, but sweet, and it was nice this year so it did not matter that he had no heater

Mike's Alfa rat rod, coolest car you ever saw. Giulia drivetrain in 1920's body, sounds mighty good too

MG in its natural habitat, hood up and refusing to start. THey got it going. See if you can guess what the guy was like.

Didn't some moron say he pitied owners of early '70's 911's? Max Moritz motor, whatever that means, very nice car.

Yeah, this is the last year they are running it, sorry dude.

It was set up by this cat Norm, of the Alpina. Fifth year, was full up. Some previous years pics here
Alpine 500
Deal was, pre 1975 cars, Norm sets the route. First year we stopped for lunch in Kirkwood via Volcano, overnight at Tahoe Biltmore. We had little cabins which was cool 'cause you were right by the car, and could look out and watch snow fall on it. Drove all the way back to Isleton, meandering all over the delta no stops.

This year we had lunch in Chico first day, Cal Neva overnight. Stop in Quincy for lunch, do the Feather River Canyon run, which IMHO is one of the better ones on this end of the state, back to Sacto. Here is us chasing that sweet bug shit yellow 911 near the southwest end of Tahoe

Cal Neva is a casino that looks like this with a bunch of old cars out front. Used to be Frank's place.

Norm is out, but someone else may pick up this event next year, try google California Melee, similar event.

Too cool, looks like a great time to bad about it being the last year. Wonder what it would take to keep it going?

Someone willing to organize it, pretty much. Norm is keeping the rights to the name, but several people approached him about getting the mailing list.
