Sarkozy Wins

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070507/ap_on_re_eu/france_election

Still, a conservative by French standards is far-left by U.S. standards...

Drdogface 05-07-2007 06:01 AM

Yeah, and one of the FIRST things he mentioned is Global Warming....what a crock of leftist BS. What he shoulda' said is..."all you Muslims...OUT" In my dreams.

What's that old saying about a conservative is just a liberal who's been mugged?

You hate to wish ill on anyone, but it seems that many people who were formerly avowed head-in-the-sand'ers have finally seen something on the horizon that scares them.

Can't wait for the left wing spin. Well, er, um, the French are just stupide then! :roflmao:

I'm not so sure. The socialists have pandered to the 'downtrodden masses' at the expense of the middle class. The 2005 riots were a wakeup call.

Will be interesting to watch. The guy is a fan of GW and sounds like Reagan sometimes. Wife wears cowboy boots.

Aurel 05-07-2007 10:22 AM

Yeah, when Sarko will want to go war Iran a year from now, I bet the lefties in the white house will veto him at the UN. What has the world come to? ;)

I think it's a great day for France and transatlantic relations. God knows Royal would not have improved things at all, not for France and not for our relationship with France.

Wouldn´t it have been fun with Royal AND Mrs Clinton !! :D

Just a non sense saying to make them feel good about themselves.

The pendulum swings back and forth. Same for the US.

Yeah, two socialists, one a man, one a woman.

Or, rather, bad about themselves.

Once the memory of the last mugging grows dim, that's when the pendulum swings back.

AFAIK - based on reading, not on first-hand reports - the French vote hinged on domestic issues - economic reform, jobs, taxes, etc. Foreign affairs and the candidates' views of the US doesn't seem to have been a big factor. I think experience also played a part, Royal was kind of wet behind the ears, her platform was seen as not very specific.

It was a good outcome, IMO.

Turbo_pro 05-07-2007 12:36 PM

What we just saw is an anti American socialist female running for president beaten by a pro American conservative male.

2008 preview ? You have to believe Hillary watched this one very closely.

Interesting. Bush's approval rating is 28%, same as Carter's during the Iran hostage crisis.

Damned if ya bomb 'em, damned if ya don't. :D

I think that demonstrated incompetance has a slight impact. If Sarkozy turns out to be completely inept at implementing his good ideas, the pendulum will swing back.
