Nice Hot Summer In 2080

I thought this story was interesting. I think the East Coast is too darn hot in summer already. 10F hotter would be unpleasant. But perhaps it'll be a dry heat.

+100 -

What about increased temperatures increasing condensation, increasing storms, which increase cloud cover which lower temperatures...

I think in 20 years all we will realize is how little we know.

Funny thing is that the temps on Mars are going up at about the same rate as on Earth. Wonder why...

Because 95% of Mars atmosphere is carbon dioxide. And of course Mars and the Earth can't be compared on climate basis at all. Mars has been experiencing a large amount of dust storms the last few years, this in turns traps dust in the atmosphere, and thus warms it. (I thought this was a good bit of info before I had lunch with my brother the other day, he's a scientist at JPL, he was quick to tell me that the Mars argument was bunk.)

How about the whole in the ozone layer that has all of a sudden closed - What happened with that? - I thought we were all going to get skin cancer.

Still there, worse or better depending on temps and othre factors. And skin cancer rates have risen over the past two decades. Nasa tracks this:

Probably be a heck of a lot hotter where I expect to be at that point in time.

pmajka 05-11-2007 10:21 AM

Total FUD and for the record, there is no such thing as dry heat on East Coast...

Yep, where it should be, up over her head.

JeremyD 05-11-2007 11:23 AM

She doesn't wear underwear

red-beard 05-11-2007 12:22 PM

Which is too bad. Removing underwear is fun! There is nothing quite like the sound of underwear hitting the floor.

"To reach their conclusions, the researchers analyzed nearly 30 years of observational temperature and precipitation data and also used computer model simulations"

So they've got this all figured out based upon nearly 30 years of data and a computer model? Those are pretty smart guys, I'd say. Now they just need to add the missing 4.5 billion years of climate data and they'll have a theory based upon actual science

Talk about a sure fire business model.

Form a think tank.

Then lobby congress with the usual bribes, junkets and hookers.

Get $10,000,000 in grant monies, fund "studies" and get a buxom admistrative assistant.

All prgnostications will be at least 50 years out, play to media hype and will be totally unscientific and unproveable.

Who wants in? (I get the buxom admin..);)

I'm in- and get dibs on the intern!

"Global" warming is unpredictable and will cause many areas of the earth to cool. Odds are, we in the south US might see a 10F drop in temperature do to "global" warming.
