Analysis of the on-board data recorder on Robert Kubica’s BMW Sauber showed that the Polish driver hit the wall at the Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal during his spectacular crash 12 days ago at a speed of 230km/h (143mph). The G-force on Kubica, who escaped with a sprained ankle, peaked at an amazing 75G.

I regularly see 73Gs when cornering in my miata. He's got nuthin. :rolleyes:

A '73S Targa can do 75Gs, with the roof off, easily.

Think about it. Hmmmmmmm.

A human head weighs about 10-11 lbs. At 75G's, his head weighed the equivalent of 800+ lbs. He is lucky his head and helmet did not pop off like a cork. Even if he came out with minimal injury, an impact like that has to leave you more than a little foggy.

Only with a Cool Collar installed...

Kenny Brack survived 100+ g:s, but he hurt a lot more than his ankle.

we didn't have no helmets at band camp, and we did those flat G's with our head... simply doesn't work to fart them through a flute

dear Penthouse Forum, I never thought I'd be writing, especially about 75 Gs...

It didn't say exactly, but I would venture to guess that it was pretty short:

"Data showed the Pole impacted against the wall at 230 km/h, and the G-forces on Kubica peaked at around 75 G in a millisecond."

The data logger is behind the driver, under the fuel cell, so his body would have decelerated much more slowly due to belt stretch etc.

Can't tell you how long it was, but it started when that wall got in the way of his line of travel.... :eek:

Reminds me of seeing Kenny Brack's (SP?) horrendous crash in IRL a few years back. He hit another driver flinging him up into the catch fence. I think he (the car) sustained 190+ G. He was in bad shape but lived to tell about it.
There was another extremely hard (non-fatal) crash in F1 back in the late 70's. Can't remember the guy's name, but his wreck "logged" 170-180 G. I think he broke almost every bone in his body and had to be resuscitated half a dozen times, but did live.
But yes, those measurements were obviously not measured on the drivers themselves.

That is why they hook that bad boy up with cables so it does not go anywhere, the helmet, not the head.

Incredible, sprained ankle, 75 G's. You would think your retina would come loose or you would tear your liver or something. I have seen people crash much slower who had their foot on the brake pedal when they hit the tree/wall. Pedal stops, body doesn't, or not as fast anyway and the heel side of the foot slides right by the ball of the foot, dislocates at the top of the arch, can be a pretty ugly radiograph.

amazing. i work at a level 1 trauma center in NY and we see a ton of motor vehicle crashes (not called accidents anymore, btw). a rapid decel like that can cause major internal injuries like a ruptured aorta which can kill you almost instantly. not to mention head injuries, as your brain bounces back and forth off the inside of your skull, tearing arteries and veins as it moves.
to come away from that crash with a sprained ankle is a testament to the safety features built into these cars. even ten years ago, this would have been another motorsports tragedy, ala Dale Earnhardt.
