War on Drugs

Hellen Keller could see that the war on drugs has been a complete failure. Legalization, regulation and taxation would
1. make junkies of ua all & destroy America
2. increase use, make junkies of many
3. increase use slightly, reduce crime
4. increase use slightly, eliminate most gang income, save trillions wasted on the war, stop destroying families over minor, non violent expenses, raise hundreds of millions in taxes and have little negative impact on our culture

Looks like we are the only two voting so far; #4 is the clear early leader...

I wonder what it will take to finally throw in the towel on this one. I was drinking some brand of micro brew last night that had "celebrating the end of prohibition - 1933" on the upper label. Same idea with drugs; the modern day gangsters will have to find another line of work. Of course so would 70-80% of all law enforcement, prison staff, etc.

The "war on drugs" is an immensly profitable one in the private sector as well. All of the equipment purchased by everyone from the DEA to the local po-dunk county sheriff, prison construction, prison administration in the states where it is privatized, and on and on. It's time to put this to an end.

I'd vote 4 but the last point is a problem. Make them harder to get. That will not cut back on illegal means of distribution, it will encourage it.

I do not do drugs but I do know enough people that I could make a phone call and easliy get whatever I want within a couple of hours.

Not to mention the "policing on commission" allowed by confiscations and the destruction of families. Go check this out http://www.nevergetbusted.com/

Damn Mule, what have you been smoking?

Read the book "Cowboy Mafia"

While written at a seventh grade level of grammar, it's an eye opening read of just how bad the Feds can smack you down even if they really have no proof you are involved. It's the largest seizure of personal assets in the history of drug busts.

The trillions of dollars spent on the War on Drugs could have done so much more for this country. It's a sham at best.

legalizing all drugs would be yet another step in the moral decay of our country. i fully expect it to happen in the next 100 years.

want to know just how big an effect it would have? just look at how many people smoke cigs. less 'high' but horrible consequences. i can only imagine what people would do if a 'better' high with the same or less consequences were made legal.

Uh huh. The government is totally dependent on taxes from cigarette sales. It totally insults my intelligence when the gov't. tells me smoking is bad for me. It sure is good for the gov't. Actually, the fact that it helps the government is a better deterrent for me than telling me it's unhealthy.

The guy on the link, Barry Cooper was the Rocky Marciano of narcotics agents. He trained the first drug dog. What he has to say is amazing. After a number of years busting record numbers of people, he began to feel like he was doing more harm than good. He retired and was arrested 5 times in a year. He was acquitted of all charges, some as seious as not turning in a dvd rental on time. Then he produced this video series. What he has to say is unbelievable.

didn't see the vid yet.

i like the idea of a doctor dispensed, medical record, candy store for everybody. Make medical records accessible for employment etc then society can get on with other things. Now it's like an itch that you can't scrsatch.

And turn all the unemployed feds into border control.

Legalize some drugs. Police the living crap out of them, make them impossible to get (first sale) illegally, and then tax the hell out of them.

Make stiff penalties for violations progressive You buy from a secondary source, first time jail. Second time lots more jail. Third time, dirt nap.
"Legal Dealers" get licensed and monitored.
Illegal dealers? Mandatory dirt nap.

When I was in high school, pot was easier to get than beer. Beer required a parent that didn't pay attention to their fridge or a friend over 21--both hard to come by at 17.

You're missing the point. Like legion said, illegal drug dealers have no standards. Once they are available legally, the drug dealer no longer exists because his profit margin is gone.

While I'm in favor of legalization I don't think this analogy works. If a kid could have "grown" beer in his window planter back then, I don't think access would have been a problem either

And it will absolutely result in an increase in use, but there is a price for freedom yes?
