Favorite back yard games.

I’m getting ready to host a back yard reception, and my current to-do is to get games in order.

I’m tossing this out there for suggestions of you favorite backyard/cabin/play it on the weekend kind of games. Pictures would be appreciated.

Just to give you an idea, we'll be putting up a volleyball net, and have boccie ball and some 'golf balls on a string' game so far.

Washers.:D Wait, is this for kids? Might be a bit early for drinking games........

71T Targa 08-07-2007 09:17 AM

It's a family deal, although there will be a 'bit' of drinking.

How do you play washers?

The Gaijin 08-07-2007 09:20 AM

Croquet is about the most fun you can have with mixed ages and abilities. Goes well with drinking too. Cut your grass about three times in three days and get it as short as possible...

Get a square of plywood, use 2x4s to get it at an incline. Get some washers. Drill a hole in the center a bit bigger than the washer. Draw concentric rings around the hole. Think dart board. Make up point values for each ring area, and the hole.

Basically, you make teams, and take turns throwing the washers at the board. Keep score. Whoever loses each round, drinks.

"Polish Golf" (goes by many names, check on Google) and horseshoes are popular with my family...

Lawn darts. Always good fun. Until the hospital visit.

Washers sound easy enough.

Polish Golf looks like the golf-balls-on-a-string game I have that my kids like...

Now where did I put my lawn darts??? ;)

onewhippedpuppy 08-07-2007 09:41 AM

Jarts, I had some of those when I was a kid!

Washers is suprisingly fun. Especially when you get a few beers in you.

http://www.washers.org/ I forgot about the reaching 21 points part. The downside to always being drunk when playing.;)

Cornhole

Don't laugh, it's a real game.

71T Targa 08-07-2007 11:08 AM

Garth, Not sure I want pictures of that one...

Tim Walsh 08-07-2007 11:09 AM

Our family favorite is Boccie, which is basically lawn bowling. Lots of fun for all ages.

Ladder golf and cornhole (a.k.a. beanbags).

Tim Hancock 08-07-2007 11:35 AM

Isn't cornhole and butt darts the same thing? Never mind, I don't want to know.

w21055 08-07-2007 11:56 AM

Target practice?

dhoward 08-07-2007 12:00 PM

Co-ed naked slip-n-slide frisbee cornhole.

I'm just sayin'....

A friend of mine is throwing a party at an old sorrority house.

We've already calculated that it will take $1,600 to fill an 8' kiddie pool 9" deep with Jello.
