Guilty Pleasure Songs

Since we have a "Songs I Need to Hear Again", and a "Songs I Never Need to Hear Again" - with everyone acting all righteous about THEIR taste in music,... I wonder what are the lousy, not-respected-by-critics songs that you like anyway. Maybe you only listen to them or sing along with them when no one is around. I am older than a bunch of you guys but (gulp) I'll admit to these:

Cover of the Rolling Stone (Is that even the right title?)
Eye of the Tiger (When I'm running - Gawd, Frank Stallone and I'm admitting to it?!)

There are others but I'm too chicken to admit them!:D

WolfeMacleod 08-29-2007 04:31 PM

hmm...

Beth - by Kiss
A couple Willie Nelson songs - Seven Spanish Angels, Always on My Mind...a few others..
a couple Carly Simon songs...

Can' think of the most guilty pleasure song though...

Oh... "Bad Bad Leroy Brown" love that song.

Tim Hancock 08-29-2007 04:49 PM

Edelwiess, Tin soldier, Convoy, Country Roads, Wolf Creek Pass, Taking Care of Business, Highway to Hell, Back in Black, Ode to Joy, Funky Comedina (sp?). How weird is that combo?

craigster59 08-29-2007 04:51 PM

I was exposed to a lot of different music growing up and still like to listen to it when I'm wrenching on the cars or doing something where I need to focus. Thrash music tends to irritate me when I'm working on project.

I know it might sound "old fogey-ish", but I listen to The Mills Bros., Perry Como, Cal Tjader, Bobby Darin, Louis Armstrong, Ella, Nina Simone, Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys, and of course blues (Mississippi Fred McDowell, Big Bill Broonzy, Slim Harpo, Lightnin' Hopkins, etc) the list goes on and on.

I've actually turned many friends on to some good eclectic music over the years.

I was flipping through the channels on the weekend and came across "Ferris Beulers Day off". Yello - Oh Yeah, must have listened to it a dozen tires in the car so far this week

scottmandue 08-29-2007 05:11 PM

There are a few over on the "Songs I Never Need to Hear Again" thread.:D

I can't recall the name but various stuff by Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Coldplay, U2, Arlo Guthrie, red hot chili peppers... I won't even get into the jazz and classical.:p

ledhedsymbols 08-29-2007 05:19 PM

:eek:Gee, I guess I'm older than I thought I was. I LIKE Sly and I don't think he's guilty pleasure. Oh he's personally weird as hell but you gotta love all his stuff.

mjohnson 08-29-2007 07:21 PM

We're mostly a punk/pre-grunge alternative family. Maybe some hardcore and rockabilly, too.

However... Post y2k Kylie Minogue (didya see the Agent Provocateur ad/video?) and any Pet Shop Boys are pretty catchy -- I guess disco never died.

Marylin Manson is so over-the-top poppy in its wannabe darkness that I'll not change the station, if you know what I mean.

Alice's Restaurant (Arlo)
"...and the hits keep on coming."

That isnt Frank Stallone. It's Survivor.

The singer of that band now does those "real men of genius" ads.

sammyg2 08-30-2007 10:26 AM

The Carpenters. Yep. Corny, sappy, but I absolutely love singing along.

Remember that movie 'tommy Boy" with Chris Farley and David Spade?
They were driving along and fighting over the radio stations when a Carpenters song came on. Next thing you know they were both singing at the top of their lungs DONCHA REMEMBER YA TOLD ME YA LOVED ME BABY......

Very funny stuff and true.

Nostril Cheese 08-30-2007 10:30 AM

Spinnin Wheel - Blood Sweat and Tears

futuresoptions 08-30-2007 10:30 AM

Purchased a INXS KICK cd this week.... haven't listen to this since the late 80's
Dead or Alive hits the spot sometimes too.... Other wise Judas Priest, Johnny Cash, Buck Owens.....

scottmandue 08-30-2007 10:30 AM

Not a big country fan... but...

The old Lyle lovet (when he played with a big band) and old Dwight Yokum (SP?) [guitars Cadillacs, etc.] and Willy Nelson.

I was channel surfing and caught something on CMT called "country outlaws", it wasn't too bad but it also wasn't country music, more like old rock 'N roll

Just for balance let me say I like Miles Davis and Charley Bird too. :D

craigster59 08-30-2007 10:40 AM

If you like Dwight Yoakam, get the album dwightyoakamacoustic.net, it's just him and his guitar playing his hits.
Also, CMT has a show "Crossroads" where they put together country and rock artists together like Melissa Ethridge/Dolly Parton, Lindsay Buckinghgam/Little Big Town, etc. playing each others songs.

futuresoptions 08-30-2007 10:42 AM

He also has a CD think it's called under the covers? Has him covering some songs like North to Alaska, Good time charlies got the blues etc...... but for now " You spin me right round baby right round like a record baby........" bet that one gets stuck in your head.....

GO DAWG GO 08-30-2007 11:17 AM

I love to sing all of Tom Johnsons stuff ( The Doobie Bros). I.e. "Listen to the music"

Sammy-Dont feel bad..Karen Carpenter was awesome..I like their Christmas album.

Micheal Jackson. Thriller.

God I'm so ashamed. Do you think there's anything wrong with me?

You know, I THINK I actually knew that. Cracked me up when I heard that factlet. Thanks for the correction.

Robert Snyder - Hey! You been looking in my medicine cabinet?! And yes, as a matter of fact I AM getting stuff from AARP. So far, I tear it up without reading it. I haven't even hit 53 yet for the love of God, can't they leave me to my fantasy of still being 35ish for AT LEAST another two years?!

cairns - You want to know if there is something wrong with YOU? No, but there is something wrong with ME! One of the songs I didn't cop to when posting this was "Ben" by Michael Jackson. What is more defective than liking a song about a friggin' rat sung by a...well....uh...a friggin' RAT?!:D

craigster59 08-30-2007 03:42 PM

I really dig the early Jackson 5 (A-B-C, I'll Be There, Stop the Love You Save, etc.). Over the top "pop", but great hooks.

stevepaa 08-30-2007 03:44 PM

Roy Orbison, almost anything he did.

Dan in Pasadena 08-30-2007 03:49 PM

I posted "guilty pleasure" songs. Everyone (I think?) recognizes Orbison for his HUGE talent.

I meant things like "Muskrat Love" or "At the Copa"! - NO, those aren't my guilty pleasures, I already copped to "Ben", wan't that bad enough? Okay, okay I'll admit to another - "Hotrod Lincoln" I LOVE singing to that song while speeding along late at night.

craigster59 08-30-2007 04:12 PM

Okay, I admit it. I do like "Say a Little Prayer For You" by Dionne Warwick..

67nin11 08-30-2007 07:59 PM

guilty pleasure? ... Adam Sandler- medium pace

snbush67 08-30-2007 08:11 PM

"Just the Good o'le Boys" Waylon Jennings

"Tainted Love"

"Suicide Blond" INXS

"Take me Home Tonight" Eddie Money

"Rebel Rebel" By Seu Jorge

"PIOVE" Some Italian Dude

"Ochie Wally" NAS

sketchers356 09-03-2007 03:02 PM

My pops grew up in Ecorse, MI. I remember when I was a kid hearing MOTOWN all day in the house (Jackson 5, Four Tops, Temptations, Commodores, Smokey Robinson) Anytime I am driving around now and I hear any of the stuff I grew up listening to get turned up. Drives my gf crazy.
