Driving NY to TX

Hoppin in the beater (Bronco) and driving to Dallas from Long Island on Monday.

Should be a 20+ hour drive?

Don't intend to go straight through.

I'll take 2 days. Hope to arrive Tuesday eve.

Thoughts? Advice? Warnings? Places to stay?

Stop at every BBQ joint along the way, take pictures, put together a coffee table cookbook, retire on royalties.

Good luck Scott!

The BBQ joints get better, the closer you get to Texas

Not if you drive through eastern NC. BBQ heaven :D

Went from Dallas to Boston once. Got there at midnight the second day, but I had to pull over for a few hours.

Pull over when/if you need to.

Was that straight or stopping for the night.

What was your total run time?

mjshira 10-11-2007 05:31 AM

it will be more than 20 hours. NY to my place is at least 12 in that vehicle. I'd come down through Indiana to Arkansas and then through east Texas to Dallas. Don't do through Tulsa.

What route are you taking?

Dunno, looking for advice on that.

Seahawk 10-11-2007 11:13 AM

1600 plus miles. I did a quick route and it took you into Ohio and down, which I would recommend.

Let's see if this works:

C:\Documents and Settings\Paul\Desktop\Huntington to Dallas.htm

Edit: Nope. Anyway, two days is doable if you leave very early each day. Stay out of the I-95 mess.

Listen to this guy. How many times have you driven cross-country Paul?

Joeaksa 10-11-2007 11:19 AM

MS Streets and trips says 1575 miles, about 2 days.

Highway 70 through Allentown, Dayton/Cin, Louisville, Nashville then highway 40 to Memphis, Little Rock and on to Dallas.

20+ round trips without a smidgen, nary a whiff, of speed limit excess.:)

Joe picked the same route I did.

Edit: Matt the 4Runner is a beast, although, from my last post, I only admire it from afar!

Hey, you gotta keep the old lady happy! I miss the 4Runner, but the 3rd row seat in the SRX has been nice. The 320 HP V8 helps ease the pain of our loss. Of course, I'm reminded of it every time we fill up.
