"UNDISGUISED: 2009 Nissan GT-R"

Excerpt:
The Nissan GT-R will go toe-to-toe with the Chevrolet Corvette Z06 and Porsche 911 Turbo. The GT-R's twin-turbo V6 gives it a startling 0 to 60 mph time of near 3.5 seconds and a top speed of 192 mph. Base price is expected to be less than $80,000.

Best,

Kurt

Performance sounds nice. The styling......not so much. Why couldn't they have just made the G37 really fast? That looks like a mutated Z.

This is nothing but good news!

I've always been a fan of Nissan sports cars, and competition makes the other breeds stronger...

the tail looks like a chevy Impala. Not a big fan of current Nissan interior design. Since my '03 Pathfinder, the designs seemed go 'butt'.

Wow, that GT-R would look phat lowered with a carbon fibre hood, triple deck wing, a huge monster tach and fire extinguiser on top of the dash, and a bunch of japanese stickers

Seriously, I'd love to have that car except I've lost all respect for nissans due to the "ricer" effect.
Too many spiky-haired punks driving them, don't want to be associated.

Nothing to see with a cheap Datsun...I would take it before a !"/$$%?&* GM product...!

I saw some old guy driving a lowered riced out WRX STi. That car looked serious (and I'm sure its phenominal), but just didn't seem to fit the driver...

I think the name "rice" generally describes vehicles that make lots of noise and are all show with no go. However i'm going to go out on a limb here and say that the GT-R has a whole ***** load of go.

Gonna' be every idiot sideways-hat ricer clown's wet dream. Good news is it'll reduce demand for the S2000s I suppose and consequently lower prices a bit. . .

Love the performance and pricepoint that Nissan/Datsun is bringing to the US (finally!). Somehow, though, the styling of the old Skylines looks better than this one. Still, it's nice to finally get it coming to our shores.

edit: I'm not a huge ricer fan; I think all that Fast and Furious stuff is ridiculous. But I guess I'm one of the few on this board that's young enough, Southern Californian enough, and Asian enough to actually like Japanese performance cars.

yeah, we should define ricer because we don't want to offend anyone... I almost went for an S2000 a couple years ago, I'd love to have that car. I think Honda makes a great product. "ricer" for me really represents the annoying attitude that goes along with a lowered japanese passenger car turned pocket racer that never made it passed the primer coat.

Is there an $80k production car that can match those performance numbers?

By production car, I mean a traditional "car", not an Ariel Atom or something like that.

Just curious.

Best,

Kurt

Supercar performance numbers. Great technology. Somewhat reasonable cost. Probable typical Japanese reliability. Probable decent fit and finish. Everyday drivability/civility. Legendary (at least amongst the Gen X & Y import crowd) performance heritage.

The only thing it "lacks" is a European nameplate. Well, that and some styling. It looks like a cross between a 350Z and a Mitsu Eclipse.

Looks like it - eBay shows $70k-ish and less for a Z06.

Similar performance specs, I presume?

Kurt

That car is definitely NOT rice. The nose took style hints from Audi. Oh and what's up with the Datsun cracks...my Datsun truck was the bomb. Almost 300K miles with probably a dozen oil changes...

I think I'd take it over a Z06.
