I thought that was awfully high.

I just may take you up on that!

Sonic, only 20 years? I thought they were good for life....

There are generally two seperate parts to getting an implant. The placement it would generally be a periodontist, oral surgeon, or properly trained general Dentist. The placement of the crown at a later date it be a general Dentist or Prosthedontist. Some Dentist may do both procedures and , if properly trained, are well within their skill levels. Personally speaking, I feel most are overcharging for implant crowns. It is sort of like the "Porsche tax" in that if this person can afford the implant, they can afford higher fee's. Doing an implant crown may cost me $300 in parts and 45 minutes of my time. I would have a hard time charging 10 times that for profit. But again, I don't live in LA.

hmm, I was also quoted $4k here in Michigan but that included the cap or fake tooth or whatever.

Do I get discount if I wear a Steelers Jersey during the procedure? :D

It has to be Jerome Bettis! Man, I've got to raise my rates. I've got to check my fee schedule!! I think implant crowns have become the new "brake job" for Dentist. Minimal cost and huge labor fee's.

yep, the insurance is through my wife's job, which will cover about 90% of the dental work. Although the oral surgery is under the medial insurance and not the dental part of it.

I hear you can get them on Craigs List a lot cheaper! :)

I had a bottom molar implant installed (:)) years ago. My dentist friend used an air drill and ratchet (just like from my garage) to get the titanium post into my jaw bone. During the procedure I heard a crack....told it was normal. Two days later I felt like I was kicked in the mouth by steel toes.

Total price then (@ cost) was about $1900.

I know nothing about dental work but yeah that price seemed awfully high to me too.

Even here in expen$ive Lost Angeles my crown was $1000 and insurance covered most of it.

Now the penis enlargement was very expensive... but that is another thread. :D

I've been scanning the "free" section on Craiglist and no such luck. maybe ebay .... I'm going to research the implant manufacturer and see if there have been an "issues" with this design of titanium screw. once it's in there, it's in there. if there are any problems down the road and the screw needs to come out, there will be a hole in my bone, and that sounds very painful. again, i'm concerned about bone fracture and infections.

rammstein 10-19-2007 10:05 AM

You've have the hole there for like 7 years, right? If its not causing any issues, why do they want to do anything? (I am actually being serious on this post)

I tend to think that with anything, unless there's a good reason for doing it, why do it?

The way it was explained to me is that the bone erodes if there is no tooth or foreign structure there to support.

excellent point. the tooth adjacent to the gap is starting to lean slightly to one side...but so what?.... I need to go back and ask about this.
