You Ain't Gonna Like Losing

You Ain't Gonna Like Losing

President Bush did make a bad mistake in the war on terrorism. But the mistake was not his decision to go to war in Iraq .Bush's mistake came in his belief that this country is the same one his father fought for in WWII. It is not.

Back then, they had just come out of a vicious depression. The country was steeled by the hardship of that depression, but they still believed fervently in this country. They knew that the people had elected their leaders, so it was the people's duty to back those leaders.

Therefore, when the war broke out the people came together, rallied behind, and stuck with their leaders, whether they had voted for them or not or whether the war was going badly or not.And war was just as distasteful and the anguish just as great then as it is today. Often there were more casualties in one day in WWII than we have had in the entire Iraq war. But that did not matter. The people stuck with the President because it was their patriotic duty. Americans put aside their differences in WWII and worked together to win that war.

Everyone from every strata of society, from young to old pitched in. Small children pulled little wagons around to gather scrap metal for the war effort. Grade school students saved their pennies to buy stamps for war bonds to help the effort.

Men who were too old or medically 4F lied about their age or condition trying their best to join the military. Women doubled their work to keep things going at home. Harsh rationing of everything from gasoline to soap, to butter was imposed, yet there was very little complaining.

You never heard prominent people on the radio belittling the President. Interestingly enough in those days there were no fat cat actors and entertainers who ran off to visit and fawn over dictators of hostile countries and complain to them about our President. Instead, they made upbeat films and entertained our troops to help the troops' morale. And a bunch even enlisted. And imagine this: Teachers in schools actually started the day off with a Pledge of Allegiance, and with prayers for our country and our troops!

Back then, no newspaper would have dared point out certain weak spots in our cities where bombs could be set off to cause the maximum damage. No newspaper would have dared complain about what we were doing to catch spies.

A newspaper would have been laughed out of existence if it had complained that German or Japanese soldiers were being 'tortured' by being forced to wear women's underwear, or subjected to interrogation by a woman, or being scared by a dog or did not have air conditioning.

There were a lot of things different back then. We were not subjected to a constant bombardment of pornography, perversion and promiscuity in movies or on radio. We did not have legions of crackheads, dope pushers and armed gangs roaming our streets

No, President Bush did not make a mistake in his handling of terrorism. He made the mistake of believing that we still had the courage and fortitude of our fathers. He believed that this was still the country that our fathers fought so dearly to preserve.

It is not the same country. It is now a cross between Sodom and Gomorra and the land of Oz. We did unite for a short while after 911, but our attitude changed when we found out that defending our country would require some sacrifices.

We are in great danger. The terrorists are fanatic Muslims. They believe that it is okay, even their duty, to kill anyone who will not convert to Islam. It has been estimated that about one-third or over three hundred million Muslims are sympathetic to the terrorists cause...Hitler and Tojo combined did not have nearly that many potential recruits.

So...we either win it - or lose it - and you ain't gonna like losing. America is not at war. The military is at war. America is at the mall.

A- for effort. C- for content.

You would have been better off comparing Iraq to what it really resembles: Vietnam.

Who ever wrote that knows zero about the history of the U.S. during WWII. There were plenty of protestors, fat cats getting rich off the war, draft dodgers. Oh and how about the Jew baiters, shipping the Japanese off to internment camps? Take off the rose colored glasses.

Bush's real mistake was a complete lack of planning. His second mistake was refusing to admit he made a mistake in preparation and planning and pretending things were going as planned until it was to late to fix things easily, if they can be fixed at this point.

We did not start WWII but we did finish it

We started Iraq and we can't finish it

911 was an attack on our country same as Pearl harbor.

The Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor

Irag did not attack NYC and DC

Before Pearl Harbor the US population had an Isolationist view on the war in Europe, no one wanted in, it was not our problem

If Pearl Harbor had not happened we likely not have gone

And there is still the nagging debate out there that FDR new PH was going to happen and allowed it so that the country would rally

Not saying I believe it or not, but there is enough documentation released under the Freedom of Information Act that makes a case for it

In WWII, people understood the ramifications of failure: No more U S A.

That's not the case today. The rift is between those that see this war as another necessity to assure our existance, and those that think if we ignore terrorists, they will ingore us.

I usually doge the political **** fest around here, but this line is REALLY getting old.

First of all, man, wake up and ditch the rhetoric, it doesn't solve anything. There are more ways then going off "to the front" to help the country and to aid in the war. Just because he isn't shipping out, doesn't mean he's not helping. So it goes for millions of Americans.

Second of all, did you ever stop to think that maybe...some people CAN'T ship out? Stop parroting this "when are you leaving" bull****, some people, for whatever reason, can't sign up. For instance: my father tried to enlist in Vietnam. They said his eyesight was too bad. So he signed a waiver; still too bad. I tried to sign up for the current debacle, once they saw my medical history they said "can't use you, go to college kid." My friend's father, who did 2 tours in 'Nam tried to enlist in the first Gulf War. They said he was "too old."

Don't know if you've seen the pictures around here, but Racer is obviously too old to enlist. Even if he wanted to, they wouldn't take him.

Why does it surprise so many people that this Great Nation is so divided? If a bunch of guys who, on the whole, likely aren't that dissimilar can't resort to anything other than petty name calling and partisan rhetoric, how can we expect this Nation to unite? The more we, as a nation, divide ourselves over Politics, the more power we give to the Politicians. When you can no longer resort to rational discussion, or simply agree to disagree, and simply unleash a barrage of "hippie" "commie" "pinko liberal "neo-con" et. al., you're playing right in to hands of the Politicians who do everything in their power to keep the circle going.

If the posts here are any indication, they are doing a right fine job of it. Divide and conquer, indeed.

We're Americans, first and foremost, and somewhere on down the line, Republicans, Democrats, Liberals, Independent, whatever else.

Just an observation...All flames and hate-mail and those wishing to "educate" me can sent via PM or through e-mail, as I won't be checking back on this topic.

Good day.

I'm sorry. It's just so tempting to poke a little fun when a middle aged guy (seen him post his pics here) sounds so gung ho.

+ freaking 10.

I recall reading recently someone relating their visit to one of those usual Washington dinners where the prominent politicians get together to schmooze eat and drink. Ted Kennedy was getting a neck massage from a prominent republican (I forget who but don't think it was Larry Craig). He was amazed at the joviality and bs'ing that went back and forth. He said a light came on: this is all just a game. And we're the losers.

Don't be too sorry.

He may be old and fat, but he does not seem to have any trouble getting hot chicks to stand next to him for pictures.

I think the ramifications are no more USA. Not in a 5 year timeframe, but in a longer, more gradual erosion of what this country was supposed to be about.

Which is exactly what is happening to some folks right now, if you read this.

Maybe the standards are too high now. My grandfather was 40 when he joined the Navy as a Corpsman in WWII, they would not take him today.

Personally, I think things are much too easy, not enough sacrifices being required of citizens whose country is essentially in a death match. Too fearful of screwing the pooch on the economy I suppose, shame really. How are people going to take it seriously if it has little or no impact on their day to day lives?
