9/11 Mastermind Bin Laden still alive. How Pathetic.
on 9/11/01 , this man masterminded a plan to kill nearly 3,000 people here in the US..
Nearly 7 years later, our genious government had managed to kill everyone else except him. This is not acceptable. --- Bin Laden urges Iraq insurgents to unite http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20071022/ts_nm/iraq_binladen_dc DUBAI (Reuters) - Osama bin Laden urged insurgent groups in Iraq to unite, saying divisions only helped the enemy, in an audio recording aired by Al Jazeera television on Monday. ADVERTISEMENT "The interest of the Islamic nation surpasses that of a group ... the interest of the (Islamic) nation is more important than that of a state," said a voice which sounded like the al Qaeda leader's. "The strength of faith is in the strength of the bond between Muslims and not that of a tribe, nationalism or an organization. "I advise ... our brothers, particularly those in al Qaeda wherever they may be, to avoid fanatically following a person or a group," he said. Al Jazeera said the tape was entitled "message to the people of Iraq." It was not clear from the part of the tape aired when it had been recorded. Bin Laden said he was addressing "mujahideen (holy warriors) in Iraq," Sunni Muslim militant groups fighting U.S.-led forces. Al Qaeda belongs to a school of Islam which regards members of Iraq's Shi'ite Muslim majority as heretics. Al Jazeera said bin Laden urged Iraqi tribes to uphold their "tradition of resisting" occupation, in an apparent reference to the presence of British forces in Iraq in the last century. The speaker warned insurgents against enemy attempts to drive wedges between groups by planting agents among them, and said such agents should be punished, but only after their guilt was established through thorough investigations. Iraq's wing of al Qaeda is one of the key groups fighting U.S.-led forces and the Baghdad government. Bin Laden's followers have angered other Sunni groups and tribes through their hardline interpretations of Islam and indiscriminate killing of civilians. Some Sunni groups have joined forces with al Qaeda to set up what they call an Islamic State in Iraq, but other groups and tribal leaders have rejected the move. Last month, bin Laden issued three messages, including a video marking al Qaeda's September 11, 2001, attacks on New York and Washington in which about 3,000 people were killed. Bin Laden said in the video that United States was vulnerable despite its power and insisted only conversion to Islam would end the conflict. (Additional reporting by Firouz Sedarat) |

He's worth more to the administration alive than dead.
If he's alive, they can keep the public whipped up into a frenzy of fear and gain all the benefits that go along with it including: 1. Willingness of people to "temporarily suspend" their constitutional rights 2. Government can establish (and entrench) processes that circumvent habeus corpus/due process 3. Likeliness to re-elect a "wartime" president (this card has already been played) 4. Easier to convince the public that "classified for national security reasons" ought to be good enough to quash any attempts to peer into the workings of government and keep it accountable to the populace. 5. Easier to increase military spending (and spending for contractors/mercenaries, who are kicking back $$$ to political campaigns) Etc., etc. etc. Long story short, OBL is worth WAY more to Bush & cronies alive than dead. I wouldn't even put it past them to keep him alive and producing tapes every once in a while from custody if they caught him, just so they could keep this "war on terror" alive so they can keep pursuing their ulterior agendas.

POP you paint a very bleak picture of our democracy. you ought to have more faith than that. Those in power work for us and operate on behalf of our best interest.

Why would someone want to turn OBL into a martyr? That's the last thing we need is to have him claim his 72 virgins and turn him into an Islamic hero. He's probably buried in the desert somewhere, fine with me. Let Islam have their own version of Santa Claus. rjp

bin Laden is not important. Dubya is not interested in him. He told us so. All that political stuff and propaganda and leadership.......that's all too complicated. Ask Dubya. It's WAY simpler than you think. After Dubya finishes delivering this Texas-style ass-whoopin', all those problems will be resolved. I guess......
For the record, you won't hear me defending the politicians. Ultra-simple views such as the one that rolls the political branches of our government up together with the administrative agencies......are amusing at best. At best. There is a HUGE difference between the agenda of our politicians who make the laws, and the agendas of the agencies asked to administer the laws.

He actually tried to kill more like 50,000 people. Since that time, my government (certainly not yours), has managed to keep Islamic terrorists from committing another heinous act on my soil - no doubt, much to your chagrin. Bin Laden is the enemy we know, much easier to deal with than the one we don't know. But your tiny little under funded brain can't think in those complex terms. Patent that. |

Anyone recall the home grown abortion clinic bomber?
From the headlines after his capture: "Rudolph spent more than five years on the run in the North Carolina wilderness, employing the survivalist techniques he learned as a soldier. He was captured in 2003 while scavenging for food behind a grocery store." How big is the North Carolina "wilderness"? Pakistan? Afghanistan? _____________________________ Quote: "...and insisted only conversion to Islam would end the conflict." _____________________________ That's it ...in a nutshell.

60 years after WW2 we are still finding things that have not been exposed.
OBL will meet Allah eventually and most of us hope that its at the end of a bullet by a military member from NYC. Off Ramp, you are really pathetic... your posts keep going futher and futher downhill... you really need professional help.

What have you done to help except whine?
Do you really believe this dribble If he's alive, they can keep the public whipped up into a frenzy of fear and gain all the benefits that go along with it including: 1. 5. Easier to increase military spending (and spending for contractors/mercenaries, who are kicking back $$$ to political campaigns) Do you really think the Ground Pounder or SF guy gets close and is pulled back to keep the regimen up? Yes the politicians let the operator just get closer and closer and back away to keep everyone at bay and pass that important freedom reducing bill at just the right time. OH and who are these mercenaries you speak of? They are ex US military operators looking for jobs doing what they know. They spent their time living in the field, training, and deploying so they didnt get the schooling to get the corner office job that many have. They worked their skills and left their families behind only to get out and find the economy left them behind and openings exist in local law enforcement , security and walmart. The best operators were drafted into the Blackwater group and others. Blackwater is owned by a SEAL, once a SEAL always a SEAL. They are providing cover because when it got tough and people actually started dying the people lining up to join the military for college and job skills dried up. Recruiting was high when 911 initially happened since it felt like a new attack, but the spirit has left for military support since then so someone has to do it. If not the military because of low numbers and not a paid organization then who? That's right I forgot that the rest of the missions the government / military handles miraculously disappeared, China threat, Asia stability, Japan, Golan Heights, Egypt, Balkans, trade agreements, the MED, coastal protection, treaty enforcement, UN support, Africa faction stability, and many other peacetime / UN brokered functions went away and the troops where all brough back stateside to rest and relax in the great conspiracy. The Chinese just make great fireworks, their missles can't deliver anything of substance, keep believing that. Some of these missions are inherited from PAST ADMINISTRATIONS, then again no one really keeps that count do they. UBL is the only threat, yep your right and we failed. Every college grad who is an officer and every high school enlistee went through the indoct briefing to keep us on on the hook, just enough slack to keep oil pumping and freedoms eroding. Do not foget about the stealth tankers coming back heaping full of sweet crude. Stop whining and step up to the game or at least provide a solution. Ignorance is a lack of knowledge. Ignorance is sometimes misinterpreted as a synonym of stupidity, and is as thus often taken as an insult. In many cases ignorance is seen as a pleasant alternative to harsh reality. Beautifully stated, dbrisson
It's so much less scary for these people to imagine big bad Bush (who is, simultaneously, dumb as a bag of rocks and a diabolical mastermind) is the source of all evil, rather than random psychopaths spread throughout the globe. Rid the world of evil by voting for Obama or Hillary! Ridiculous. |

We forget the Billary's biggest military accomplishment was a few cruise missiles into the Afghan desert while the Soviets where still embroiled in the thick of it.
It is ironic though how Afghanistan is linked to the massive bankrupting of the USSR and we moved in and out relatively effectively, only to be mired down in Iraq. At the very highest summary of differences the Afghans were truly wanting to rid themselves of the Taliban and religious rules sets thus forming a cohesive front against the oppressors while the Iraqis are still trying to decide their fate or at least who to support. |

OBL is boring crap after reading today's Ralph Peters. He throws options up on the reasons of Israel taking on Syria's early stage chocolate factory last Sept 6. Israel rocked the ME & UN and reinstalled brass balls on that ride.
good read Nuke Nightmare Ralph Peters

i just read some above posts..
Reagan, CIA Dir Bill Casey, and the Pope turned Poland. USSR's economy eventually broke. Economics and war shape civiizations imo. Columbia U students applauded a real evil president recently. They distrust and dislike their own president. go figure Petraus said that most all terrorist networks define Iraq as the battlefield. And , imo, Iraq's gov't leaders are waiting to see who wins the US Pres. Now they are keeping all their options as open as possible. Billary was concerned with politics. And containment was still in vogue. Bush rewrote US strategic policy w/preemption. The good old cold war days are over imo.

The "mastermind" of 911 was Khalid Sheik Muhammed. He's currently in Guantanamo, where I'm sure we're not torturing him enough.
