Now there's an honest golfer :D

I just went out - cleared away a foot and a half of snow - took out my putter (just to see how far I could hit it ) - and wow ! must be the cold weather or all the clothing I packed on - 275 yards easy - tapped it in with a 2 iron.

Someone out there take Matt on - I have a hard time believing what you are telling us.

Let me see if I got this straight;

You are on the nuts with a 1 iron
You're average drive is over 300
You are hitting wedges into par 5's (but can only manage par )
You don't play very often
You have a four handicap

Again, not saying you aren't all you say - but I'd have to have confirmation.
Kind of like some of those ams at Pebble, the ones they tell us have a 4 or 6 handicap - then we see them take the loooong way around the course . Well I only watch on sunday now so don't know if Kevin Costner or Kenny G or Kelly Slater didn't outplay their prof. partners the other three days... or even broke 90

Yeah, I definitely think that Matt is wasting his time (with whatever he's doing) by not going on tour. Let's do the math:

Par 5, 522 yards...no dogleg and no elevated tee and uses a sand wedge on second shot.

At the Accenture last week on the last hole that Tiger used a driver he hit it 319 yards.

If Matt hit it 40 yards further than Tiger, that would be a 359 yard drive...and embarrass the hell out of Tiger.;)

It would still leave Matt with 163 to the pin.

Now, unless Matt plans on hitting that sand wedge in the belly every time...that is a very strange club to be using for a 163 yard approach shot.

Hmmmm............................

I'm sure I've hit my sand wedge 160 before.

Skulled it right over the green... :D

That's nuthin'. I always tee off with a driver but I like to shape my shots - sometimes like a wedge, sometimes like a one iron, sometimes like a firmly struck putt, and everything in-between.

If we have this tourney maybe we could have one group for you good players and another group of us sucky players.... we could play for high score :D

I tried really really hard to learn golf because my dad loves the game and I figured it would be a good bonding thing for us to do together now that I am an adult and I love being outdoors.

But alas after lessons, trips to the range, and a few rounds with friends... I still suck. I could hit close to par on a few holes... but those par times two holes were bringing me down.

Yeah, I was talking about the old man. I watched him at the Peoria TT way back in the late 1970's. He seemed like a good guy. But it pissed me off because he beat my guys on the Triumphs!

Not to hijack the thread...

But I saw King Kenny at Laguna Seca back in the day!

And I lived only twenty minutes from Ascot raceway!

Neener neener!

Now back to discussing wasting a perfectly good afternoon chasing a little ball around a park. :D

J/K!

All this talk of high tech clubs reminds me of when I played tennis... I had the latest whoopeedoo carbon fiber racket... and then I saw some kid burning up the court with a old broken wood racket... made me think.
