Valley fog and booze don't mix

http://www.kcra.com/news/14503956/detail.html

100 car pileup near Fresno on 99 If you must drive be careful and watch out for drunks. Happens every few years they have a big crash because of fog in Cali.

It is GW Bush's fault, he used to be a drunk from Texas

Tobra,

Let me guess. Your are sitting at home, randomly surfing the net, thinking of a clever Bush bashing theme, when it hits you - Eureka!

See, I am getting the hang of it! :D

Mmmmm....Not quite, Markus. I believe Tobra is bashing the liberals who he feels blame everything on our "used to be a drunk from Texas" president.

Of course, one also carries the burden when reading such a post of needing to decide whether it is droll or troll. :)

hmmm, I'm not so sure. My guess is Tobra's in the tertiary stage of a shame spiral. He knows the man in the White House sucks more than other President in recent history, and by cleverly adopting (one of many of) his opponent's arguments, especially in situations where clearly Bush isn't at fault, he seeks to soften the blow to his own ego as his own mind deals with how it could be so wrong for so long.:D;););););):p

Please note multiple use smileys.

Somehow I think there's a good rebuttal to that statement. Just can't quite put my finger on it.....

I lived in the Fresno area for quite a number of years. If you've never experienced "tule fog", be happy about it. You can drive and look up to see the stars through the top of the windshield but can't see past two center stripes ahead of the car. Anybody who drives drunk or fast in that is asking for a death sentence & to kill a bunch of others.
You had better not pull off to the side of the road either. If you don't pull way off the side, you stand a good chance of being rear ended by someone else who is also trying to get off the road. It's absolutely a seriously dangerous condition.

yeah, he is from Washington DC now, besides, he is a bornagain Christian, they are high on life and never do anything untoward:rolleyes:

Actually Markus, where I currently live and was raised has some of the heaviest fog you will ever see in your life. Something about the topography and weather patterns makes fog get trapped in this huge valley and you can't see 20 feet at high noon. Seriously, it is unbelievable. I can think of at least a half dozen times this has happened that I recall off the top of my head where there was a massive crash and loss of life.

Turns out the drunk from San Antonio was not the drunk who caused it. Out of 100 cars there are at least as many drunks as there are fatalities.

Todd, I think a more amusing retort might involve a reference to oral sex

Trip from SF down to LA

That is what I would call excellent visibility compared to the soup that is commonly present

Is this supposed to be 2 threads in one? ;) Tule fog is unique and dangerous as hell. This hundred car pile up repeats itself regularly and always at this time of year (or later). Once you've entered it's a complete hail mary. Really, the only sure way to stop the progression is for the last car to be sticking out of the fog. Until that happens, you drive in before you can stop and something solid is already parked in front of you.

Tobra 11-05-2007 07:18 AM

I remember when I first moved down to Texas and they talked about how bad the fog was, I just laughed. Good for walking, preternatural silence, bad for driving.

oldE 11-05-2007 07:21 AM

Isn't this why some manufacturers make infra-red scanning systems and /or radar proximity systems, so you can set the cruise and blast through the fog (atmospheric) at 85?

That is both ironic and sadly plausible. In many countries.
